My husband and I tried this after passing it many times. The food was good, not amazing. They have a good wine list and if you sit on the patio it makes for a wonderful evening.

Very nice atmosphere and the staff is wonderful. Our servicer was Kyle. We had calamari, wedge salad, penne, and sea bass. All was great tasting. Loved the sauces that came with the calamari. Bass was perfect with the potatoes and spinach. Penne had deep flavors! Jonn Michelle Armstrong

I took my mother out to dinner here the other night when she was in town and I have never been so offended by service at a restaurant. After being seated our waitress asked if we would like any wine, we replied ‘not at the moment’ wanting to look over the menu and then order a glass with our meal as I wasn’t sure what I was ordering yet. After hearing that the waitress took the wine menu and stormed off obviously disappointed thinking we weren’t going to order any. After waiting 30 mins, she never returned and we had to ask another waiter to find her. She still never came back to our table and made the other waiter take over and continue to wait on us for the rest of the night. A simple apology would have made up for this experience but we never even received that! However, I must say the food was wonderful once we finally got it. Here’s to hoping the chef finds better staff in the future.

We have been to Volare several times and I have tried 15 different entres. So far my favorite is the gnocchi and I recommend it and always let my guest sample.

I love Volare!! Top notch service and top notch menu. Although typically considered a pricey menu, the investment is well worth it. Fabulous date night/anniversary restaurant!

A good old fashioned Italian restaurant. Terrific food, exceptional service, in the setting and atmosphere you expect from a classic Italian place. One of my favorite features and maybe the least known, is that every night is half-price bottle of wine night as long as you’re sitting at the bar–even at the tables in the bar. Which is the primary reason why I think we’ve only ever sat in the dining room once. One of my favorites anywhere, and I used to haunt Chicago’s Little Italy/Taylor Street regularly.

So delicious! I have no clue why this place doesn’t get a 5.0 rating! Yes, it’s on the more expensive end, but no more so than many other upscale restaraunts around Louisville. I have been there so many times and it is consistently very good and has good service. The drinks and bar food are delicious, especially since they revamped their cocktail and bar menus (with many dishes made using the Big Green Egg). It’s nice that you have an option to sit at a table or sit at the bar with TVs and often live music. The chef, Josh Moore, grows the tomatoes and many other vegetables when they’re in season on his farm so it really is a farm-to-table place. He is also one of the rare chefs who is also fabulous at desserts. Some of my favorites overall include the eggplant rotolini appetizer, Mediterranean heirloom tomato salad (available in season), bruschetta (a different take with a cream cheese- like goat cheese topping), chicken Parmesan (crisp and thickly breaded topped with broiled cheese), sea bass (a consistent special that is always good no matter the way they prepare it), fruiti de mare pasta with seafood in a spicy broth, spaghetti bolognese (prepared in the traditional Italian way of less sauce and big meat chunks), chicken Marsala, steaks (expensive but I’ve heard they’re very good), and all the desserts, especially the creme brle and cheesecake. They also have hand-cast sugar apples that you break open to have cake bits fall out of (great to hide rings in for engagements and fun for birthdays). It’s true that you wouldn’t dine there for the patio; it’s nice to have an outside option when the weather is nice but it isn’t huge nor is the view great. But that doesn’t matter to me because the energy when it’s busy with people socializing and the feel of it being a traditional/old school Italian restaraunt is all inside and makes dining there a fun experience. Highly recommend for date night, weekend night bar scene, family dinners, watching games, Derby weakened dinner, birthday dinners, special events, or just a random weeknight treat! They also catered my rehearsal dinner and everyone commented on how delicious the food was!
