Too much food and too little flavor. The menu is sumptuous In offerings but fails to deliver surprise nor delight. Bland flavors. Overly large meal… The portions are much too large. Great menu. Great ideas. Absolutely no creativity, no passion in the flavor of the food, nor satisfaction in its enjoyment. Quantity over quality. This is where bold… doesn’t exist. The house cabernet was horrifyingly tasteless and boring. Tasteless desserts. Good bourbons. The swing band was great. I really dislike being negative, but this menu deserves attention it is not receiving. From its chef.
Poor Service. I just came from a late lunch with a party of six at the York Street Cafe. I had the fish tacos ($8.99), a small coke ($?), and a piece of chocolate cake ($?). As I was part of a party of six, I anticipated the 20% gratuity that would automatically be charged. The food was good, and the service was acceptable. When the check came, it was all on one bill, and the waitress acted like she was doing some grand favor for us by breaking it down for us so we could pay for our respective portions. Had the restaurant been crowded, I would have understood her reluctance to break the ticket down, however, we were THE ONLY PATRONS IN THE RESTAURANT. She did divide the ticket, and I approached her inquiring about pricing, as my portion was for $37.54. The waitress turned to me and explained that she didn’t have to divide our ticket, that she was doing me a favor, and wouldn’t explain the charges. Needless to say, I won’t be returning, and I will encourage all my friends and colleagues to avoid the York Street Cafe as well.
Love it, love it. Great food and great service. Love the decor and the whole experience of the place. Been going to place for years and excited to take friends to experience it for the first time as well.
Unbelievably bad service. Made reservations for 6 at York Street Cafe and reconfirmed on 3 different occasions prior to our planned visit. We showed up at the appointed time to be told reservations did not guarantee we would be seated at the time agreed, and that we would have a 1 hour wait before being seated. When we objected, the manager became quite rude and acted like it was our fault. So what’s the point of making a reservation.? If you would have told us the policy, we would not have gone on Saturday night under those conditions! We left and will never be back.
Underwhelmed, poor service. Food was OK. Nothing special, but OK. Def not worth 20+ for entrees. The worst part of our night was the terrible service. 10+ minutes for waters, another 10+ minutes for our server to show up to take drink orders. She was a moron who barely spoke English. Another 15 minutes for drinks to show up.When we went to pay, they refused to split the $300+ check four ways. They basically threw a temper tantrum and seemed outraged that four couples would want to have separate check. They also had an opossum and cat running around on the patio.I’m never going back and recommend that nobody I know goes either.
Love this place. Great lunch place– homemade food, great service and cozy setting. Make sure to have cake for dessert!
Best dessert on the planet! We bring all of our out of town guests there for dessert. Must try their peanut butter pie! Great service too!
