This place tops every bbq restaurant in the area. Don’t settle for moonlight, you won’t regret moonlight. It’s cheaper, and better. Mutton is to die for.
Best BBQ in Owensboro. The only reason to pick Moonlite over Old Hickory would be to pig out at the buffet. I’ve been here twice in recent months and service was excellent both times. The burgoo is the best I’ve had and the bbq pork ribs are my favorite here. Sides of mac n cheese and bbq beans were also excellent. The last time I was there I brought home a gallon of burgoo to freeze for later. I’m not a big fan of their chopped meats (finely chopped and soaked in sauce), so I would recommend the sliced meats. I’m not sure why they don’t have pulled pork, which would be a better option in my opinion. I also prefer the hot and sweet sauce over their regular sauce which has a strong vinegar based flavor. If you want good smokey bbq flavor, I’d definitely recommend Old Hickory over Moonlite.
Never even heard of Burgoo before moving to Owensboro. After trying a bunch, Old Hickory’s is best!
Message to Diner From Birmingham. To the Diner From Birmingham, the smoke pits are located in a seperate building on the property. They cannot cook the meats in steam tables, it is to keep the meats hot….DUUUUUUH! It is authentic smoke-pit bar-b-q! My favorite in town. Never disappointed. I dont like how the owner or manager (or whatever he is) yells and cusses at his employees and humilates them, that is my only thing against the place. Feel bad for anyone that works for him! What a bully and a JERK !!
Terrible experience. We dined here for lunch. Terrible service and the food was unimpressive. We will not be going back.
The WORST! The waitress treated us like we were a bother. The burgoo…there are no words how nasty it tasted. Portions were tiny. BBQ was marginal at best. You cannot call those pancakes cornbread. If this restaurant represents Kentucky’s hospitality and food, then it needs to stop advertising as a tourist destination. This place made the whole state look bad.
