$8.95 Alll-You-Can-Eat Saturday Buffet – Great! Great! Great!. My wife, a friend and I went for our first trip to Ole South on 2/28/15. Just wanted something different from Moonlight when we were in Owensboro. Were we ever (pleasantly!) surprised! For $8.95 (Saturday lunchtime buffet) we had all-you-can-eat of salad bar (with great coleslaw and potato salads) pulled pork, fried chicken, catfish, real mashed potatoes, hashed-brown casserole, mac-and-cheese, grits, carrots, green beans with seasoning, corn, rolls corn bread, spice apples, burgoo and chili. Plus a desert bar! OK – the burgoo (sorry guys) did leave something to be desired – and the chili too. But EVERYTHING else was really Great! Our friend is Super Picky – and he left stuffed.We will go again, and again, and again whenever we’re in Owensboro. This place is Great! I don’t know how anyone could fault the quality, selection or flavor of the food here – and the service was really great, too.
Small buffet, small price. I almost didn’t try it because of some of the negative reviews on here. I asked some locals and got mixed reviews too so I decided it wouldn’t kill me and my company was paying for it. Pulled pork was very good. Smoked chicken breast tasted very good, slightly dried than I like but not terrible. Corn bread muffins OK. Mashed potatoes and gravy was pretty good. Green beans weren’t too bad. Mac-n-cheese was disappointing. It looked good but it was watery like they didn’t drain all the water from inside the macaroni. Burgoo was only OK. I’ve had much better. Buffet = water w/ lemon was less than $12 and I was stuffed. I couldn’t look at desert I was so full. The buffet is pretty small. Overall I like Moonlite better for the bigger variety but Ole South is worth a try and the price is reasonable.
Food has gone down hill since reopening. Meats are very greasy. Walked in to order carry out and had the pleasure of watching wait staff eating behind buffet and seemed put out that I wanted to order. Decided to try again and ordered bean soup and cornbread. Soup had no flavor. Cornbread was good but I’ve never seen such small cornbread muffins. Not going back.22 Oct, 2012The health dept has closed this restaurant.
Worse Barbeque place ever. Went through the drive through 7/18/2013. Got the family pack for 4 with mac and cheese and coleslaw. Pulled pork. $17.95. The food was really bad. The pork was so greasy it bordered on inedible. Very little smoked taste. Large chunk of fat comprising most of the meat. The mac and cheese was swimming in water, Incredible!. Coleslaw was also mostly liquid. The store bought buns were the best part of the meal! I can make bad food at home:) I won’t ever go back here.
Somewhere else. Dined here on 18 May 2013 with wife and friends. Uniformly very average food buffet with some notable poor selections. The so-called smoked prime rib looked so dry and tasteless we did not order. The Kentucky Burgoo or Brunswick stew as it’s known in other areas was bland and tasteless. Easily the worst I’ve ever had. The pulled pork was only very minimally better.Will not return.
Very good! Service was great and food was too! Nothing fancy but delicious!
Re-opening under new ownership. Starting around Nov 4-6, it is reopening under new ownership. got health department approval few days ago. Go check it out when it reopens.
