Great Food- Terrible Service. I absolutely love apollo’s food especially their garlic bread, However, I have to say the service we received was awful. It was a Sunday Afternoon and it wasn’t busy at all, yet we waited over 45 minutes to get our food and after everyone received there food the waiter never even noticed I had yet to get mine. After another 20 minutes we mentioned something and she said they put onions on my sandwich and was going to redo it. During this wait period she never refilled any of our drinks or asked how the food was or even apologized for the wait. After she brought the food she never made direct eye contact but said she would have this taken off our ticket, which of course didn’t happen. I love supporting local restaurants but when the service is this bad it’s hard to get past. Overall, the restaurant atmosphere and food is great though.
Should have tried Apollo Pizza much sooner. I lived in Richmond for a dozen years, during which time I heard about Apollo Pizza, but never tried it. Recently, however, I took a look at their menu and knew that I had to check it out. This weekend I had the opportunity to do so, and am glad that I did. I just wish I had tried it many years ago, so I could have been enjoying the food this whole time.Service: Delivery service was good. My girlfriend had some trouble understanding the lady taking our order, and vice versa, which led to a couple of mistakes. The delivery estimate was an hour to and hour and fifteen minutes, which was reasonable considering the size of the order. It was late, however, due to the order taker getting the name of our hotel wrong. Both the delivery driver and the restaurant called multiples times, though, until getting in touch with us and getting it sorted out. It was a minor delay and I’m happy with how they handled it.Pizza: We tried three pizzas: The Green & White (with chicken on half), the Farmer’s Market, and the Sausage Fest. We were happy with all three. My girlfriend loved the Green & White, as did I. The pesto flavor was prominent, but not overwhelming. I liked the Sausage Fest even more. My gf said that the Farmer’s Market was good, but was her second choice.Sides: We went a little crazy with sides, and tried several: Cheesy Garlic Sticks, Cheese Bread, Toasted Ravioli, and the Holy Macaroni. The Cheesy Garlic Sticks were great, and I’ll likely order those every time I return. The Cheese Bread was good, but is similar to what you’d get from several other pizza joints. The Toasted Ravioli was also good, but I wish it was better described on the online menu. The filling was not specified, which is information I would expect to see in the description. Granted, this is easy to ask about when placing an order via phone, but had we ordered online it would not have been possible. The Holy Macaroni was ok, but nothing exciting. We ordered without bacon, but it was included anyway. This prevented my vegetarian girlfriend from being able to try it. I found that the bacon flavor was overwhelming, preventing me from really getting a good taste of the dish itself.Dessert: We sampled three desserts: the Chocolate Chip Brownie, the Chocolate Chip Cookie, and the Reese’s Peanut Butter Pie. Both the brownie and cookie were large servings for the price, but the flavor was underwhelming. The Peanut Butter Pie was very good, but I felt the serving size was small for the price. I am likely to skip dessert on my next visit. There are several more items I look forward to trying at Apollo’s, so I’m sure that I will be returning many times. They have a large variety of interesting pizza choices, including vegetarian, vegan, and (almost) gluten free options. This local pizza place is a much better option, in my opinion, than ordering from a typical pizza chain.
New Apollo is better than ever.. I reviewed this place before but that review is gone. That’s okay, because after it closed and re-opened, it got better.I can’t speak to weekends and nights, because I am only around for lunch, but the food is great like it’s always been. Probably better. Service is usually good, with the occasional blip. Takes them a little bit to make a pizza sometimes, but you can see them in there making them by hand. If you want fast mechanized not-as-good pizza, go somewhere else. The menu is way better than before, and the draft beer and bottle selection is killer. Always have local craft beer on hand, which is just the coolest.Do yourself a favor, and ask about some of their way out pizzas that aren’t on the menu. Or the 8 Mile pizza.
Pizza. Beer. People.. Apollo has it all. It’s not just that the pizza is good, there are so many custom pizzas: My favs are the Hippie Chick and Sausage Fest, but I’m yet to come across one I don’t like. Then there’s the beer: A great selection that includes local micro-brews and the regulars. There’s a back patio now too, and plenty of TVs for whatever sport you’re looking for (I’ve watched the NCAA tournament and MLS playoffs there). My kids love it. My wife loves it. Even my dog loves it (they let dogs on the back patio one day a week in summer). It’s a great hang, totally affordable, and worth checking out if you’re new to Richmond or just passing through.
HORRIBLE SERVICE. The food was good but the service sucks. First they delivered the wrong items to me. Then when I called they asked if I was sure I meant to call their restaurant. Then they put me on hold forever before coming back on and asking what the problem was again before saying that they would send me out my order with the correct food. Took them over an hour to get my food to me, after waiting over 50 mins for the first one. Saw the Pizza guy just throw my order on the front desk and walk out when I was coming to the front door to get it. I love the food and enjoyed this place but after that experience I will not be going here again.
Got a grilled buffalo chicken salad. Was actually all leafy greens! And fresh and crisp! Delivered! Usually get delivery orders. Only a couple mixups but I have always came out ahead, no hassles.
Executive Director, Richmond Chamber. You have to love when you call to order and as soon as you say who you are they say you want a beer cheese burger pizza right? I always say yes because all the ladies at the Richmond Chamber love that pizza. If you haven’t tried it you should! Thanks Apollo Pizza for being a member of our chamber! They hosted Leadership Madison County last week and we ate inside the newly renovated space and it is great! Wes and Rodney kudos for investing in our downtown!
