I was in town over the weekend from Cincinnati, visiting family, when we decided to order a late dinner from Gillum’s on Saturday evening. We ordered a medium pizza in specific & it was AMAZING to say the least!! The crust was thin but not too thin. The toppings were abundant, & the overall pizza was bursting with flavor! Folks next time you are in Richmond, do not let this one pass you by! Bon appetit!
Having heard so much about this place, I finally tried it with some friends. I ordered the pizza, which came highly recommended. Eh. Standard bar & grill pizza, nothing fancy. Not bad, but not worth the money, frankly. The other entrees were also pretty bog-standard, with nothing really out-standing. I just don’t get the hype. Service was unenthusiastic, but not really bad. Honestly, there just wasn’t anything that stood out to distinguish the place from every other bar & grill I’ve eaten at. One of many, it seems.
It’s a sports bar… Overal…. It’s a sports bar…Overall it was good. The hot brown pizza was very good. The grilled buffalo chicken salad was fresh and also very good. Nothing outstanding, but I would go back.
Dont trust the friends of gillums. All lies!! Ingredients are truly cheap. Pizza, their claim to fame, is exaggerated at best. Pizzas are made with old, frozen crusts, not fresh dough, with cheap sysco toppings. You can make the same pizza at home at 1/3 the cost. With no beer specials EVER, Gilllums has the most expensive drinks in town, which keeps the college kids out along with any young cute women. False advertising makes his menu sound better than it is,ex. the GYRO sandwich labeled as lamb on the menu, is nothing but beef. Maybe someone should sue. Just ask to see the frozen box it comes in. All food there is frozen solid, nothing is made fresh, even lunch meat is old and slimy. Service is slow more often than not, and several times i’ve sent my food back wrong. Dont even think about delivery. With only 1 delivery person, the food is chronically late, cold, and without sauces. The owner is a crass, crooked businessman, with too many connections with local government. An old EKU football player, you can see him many days drunk at his bar, stumbling around. Finally, there is a reason Gillums can’t expand out of richmond. Mr. Gillum cannot exceed his friends influence in local government, and EKU. Food just isnt that great for its cost. Its a sports bar with expensive bar food, nothing else. Save your money and make your own pizza at home, or get a fresh one somewhere else for less.
Don’t understand the hype. I have several co-workers who swear about how amazing this place is, but I really don’t understand it. I’ve been there and tried their pizza and it was pretty crappy actually. You might as well get a thin crust frozen pizza from Meijer.
Large, loyal following for a reason.. I admit, I am a frequent lunch customer. Once in a blue moon I’ve gotten less than great service, but it is a rarity. The service is usually tip top.Gillum’s is a typical sports bar except for one difference – the food is better. It’s not going to change your life or anything. It’s just bar food, but very good bar food. The pizza here is the signature item but everything else on the diverse menu is very good, including wraps, salads, Phillies, steaks, fish, etc. Also, unlike many sports bars, there are side dishes other than fries and onion rings. You can choose from steamed vegetables, salads, potatoes, asparagus, and on and on. The selection of beer on tap is extensive and there are T.V.s everywhere.Gillum’s serves sports bar fare at its most evolved. If that’s what you’re looking for, this is the place.
Surprisingly good. Had a salad with some friends at a working lunch. I was expecting the usual testosterone good ole boy bar. It was quiet and pleasant. It was during the week and no games were on, so it may be different on week-ends
