The food is good. I know my tacos and they taste okay. But it takes forever to get your food and the service is very bad. I just left and ordered 6 tacos. It took 45 min. to get my food. After I 35 I asked her how much longer it would be and she was very nasty and said about 10 min. Next time maybe you should call ahead. What???? That is how you talk to a customer after they have been waiting 35 min for food?? Then when I went to pay she said again that I should just call ahead. I told her that I go to taco places all the time and no where has ever taken over 40 min. She just rolled her eyes and said do you see that table (a table of 4 people) they ordered before you. Like that is a good reason to take almost an hour. I will never be back.
Excellent. My fiance and I walked by El Molcajete almost every day during the summer in the evening, and every time there was chicken or steak on the grill it always smelled delicious. We finally decided to go one night, and we were not disappointed. My two steak tacos were both delicious and filling; her wet steak burrito was possibly the best burrito I have ever tasted. Hands down best Mexican in Shelbyville, and worth it for anyone truly interested in authentic Mexican food.
I would guess this place is as authenticMexican cuisine as you can get anywhere in Shelby County. Very little Gringo spoken when you walk in but the food is excellent. The Pastor and Chorizo tacos ($2 per) are wonderful and the chicken soup will cure any ailment. The poor overall rating is likely due to slow or inattentive customer service. The last time I was there it was recommended that I call ahead with my order (and all I ordered was tacos!). Momma can be very slowwith food prep and the place does not seem at all able to handlelargegroups of hungry customers. But Ihighly recommend.
A seriously delicious dive. Amazing authentic Mexican food. Reminded my husband and I of our honeymoon in Mexico! Carnitas tacos, chorizo tacos and a carnitas burrito…all amazing!
