My wife and I stopped in for a late lunch. We had pork egg rolls and Crab Rangoon for appetizers. The egg rolls were really good. They were packed with finely minced pork and slivered veggies. Cooked to a golden crisp, they were served with a side of sweet and sour sauce. The Rangoon (4 per serving) were likewise fried perfectly and, like the egg rolls, were not greasy as most we have tried. Another plus for the Rangoon was the flavor of the crab and cream cheese not being overwhelmed with sweetness. They had just the right touch. The Basil Fried Rice with Beef hit the spot for me and the lunch portion could easily fill two. My wife had the Walnut Pork. Again, the portion size was very large. She liked it and there were large walnut halves throughout.
I have been a customer for over 25 years, but unfortunately I do not know if I will return. There are new owners and new chefs, who although they may be good with more experience, my visit was not so good. They changed the spice palette to fit with more Burmese spices, which is odd considering it is a Chinese/Vietnamese restaurant.Also my favorite appetizer, the Shrimp and Lettuce Rolls, contained Basil leaves. When I inquired about it, I’m not sure whether that was a permanent change or cross-contamination. Neither is good news. My curry was undercooked, and the spices were off too. When I asked about my entree, I was told the chef had left for the evening. What chef leaves before the last guest has left for the night, especially five minutes after the entree is served? Did they even clean up the kitchen?On a positive the wait staff is still amazing. They are friendly and never let my drink get empty. I wish I could grade a restaurant by the wait staff alone, because they deserve 5 stars.
