Great food, mature atmosphere. The food at Uptown is always wonderful. They have too many unique and interesting menu options to pick from, so I always have a hard time deciding what to have. As far as atmosphere, you will usually find an upscale, older crowd there. I wouldn’t characterize it as child friendly. I also wouldn’t go there with a bunch of friends who wanted to celebrate and get a little loud.
Don’t waste your money. Used to be good, but no longer is. Food is average.
Started out good…the appetizer we ordered was had us excited for more (black bean cakes). My husband and I both ordered salads for our entrees. He had the chicken Caesar and the chicken tasted like rubber and smelled awful. I had the asparagus and beet salad which wouldn’t have been so bad had there actually been some balsamic dressing. It was so tasteless and plain. too bad the entire meal wasn’t as good as the app. Luckily we had a living social deal. I wouldn’t have wanted to pay full price for it.
Excellent Experience!. My family dined here this evening in celebration of my daughter’s college graduation (yay…Syd!). There were 12 people in our party and everyone was totally thrilled with their meals! From the Brie cheese and mandarin orange salad, to the prosciutto- and goat cheese-stuffed chicken, to the cream-filled puff pastry dessert, there was something for everyone. And the service was truly outstanding; my iced tea glass never ran dry! Two big thumbs up and we are definitely looking forward to our next visit to Uptown Cafe! 🙂
Disappointing. After reading the many positive reviews my husband and I recently had lunch at the Uptown Cafe. The service was OK, the atmosphere was OK, and the food was average at best. I ordered the roasted beet and asparagus salad on mixed greens. I received some none-too-fresh baby romaine that had been dumped from the bag cold pickled beets (NOT roasted) from a can with some asparagus that had been roasted some time previously – cold also. There were a few globs of goat cheese and some walnuts on top. This was the $10.50 salad. My husband had the roasted salmon sandwich for $12.50.The salmon was over cooked and the sandwich was acceptable but nothing special. With coffee and the tip the bill was over $30. We won’t be going back and I certainly wouldn’t recommend the Uptown Cafe to a friend!
Good food good service. Tried this for lunch. The chicken in puff pastries was delicious, creative. Service was attentive, friendly. Would try the bass fish tacks next time.
Louisville Institution!. All the things that come to mind about Uptown Cafe are all the things I look for in a quality dining experience. Great environment (classy, but not gawdy), knowledgable staff, delicious food, great wine, competent bartenders… reasonably priced!!!! Not to mention all the great people watching available right there on Bardstown Road. The fact that Uptown Cafe has been around so long in these unique times, means one thing…. they are doing something right! I think it’s eassy for younger people to forget about it from time to time though. However, Let me remind you. Want a casual fine dining experience that feels like it could cost twice as much right in your neighborhood? Go to Uptown
