Ugh. When Don’s first opened I was obsessed, then the food started hurting my stomach so I quit eating there for a while. My husband and I waited a couple of years then we tried it again not too bad however that changed that last and final time we ate there. First off I ordered a water which came in a colored plastic cup I go to take a sip and I get some resistance, take another sip same thing. By the third sip I look and there is an entire napkin folded up in my water! My husband couldn’t believe what I was saying. He ordered his dish with no mushrooms ( he is allergic) and his dish comes and luckily he looked at it closely because chopped up itty bitty were mushrooms. The guacamole that came with my dish was semi-browned and adhered to the plate. Makes you wonder how long that guac was sitting on that plate before hot food was put on it. I seriously thought we were on an episode of Kitchen Nightmares, I even looked for Gordon Ramsey. We were so turned off we haven’t been back since and don’t plan on it!
Not Run-of-the-Mill Mexican. I’ve been here about three times, and what stands out to me the most is the selection on the menu. So many Mexican restaurants in the area seem like they share the same menus or the menus are about 80% the same. Don Senor has some unique offerings and preparations. For instance, not everything is served with the standard sides of rice and refried beans as is so common. One dish I have enjoyed is a spinach and mushroom chicken burrito with ricotta cheese served under a chunky tomato based sauce along with a side of grilled vegetables. Even if that isn’t your thing, you’ll note the difference in this offering from what you typically see in the area. The interior is quite nice and I have found the service to be good with the exception of a couple somewhat sullen servers. If you want Mexican but would like to change it up, this is a pretty good choice.
