Okay, here’s my newest review in a while. My wife and I went for our 15th wedding anniversary for a special meal and indeed it was. I will admit to being in a bad mood after having to walk through the crowds and motorcycles for a quarter of a mile to get to the restaurant .(some kind of festival) This was no fault of the restaurant, the streets were blocked off for cars! In the hot, muggy weather through clouds of cigarette smoke (and other stuff) and foul talking people, certainly not much of a family atmosphere. I do apologize to the folks at the Grill if I was grumpy. I got my head together and decided to continue my special evening with my bride. The service was marvelous, reservations right on the money, tables spotless, our waiter was something special. For appetizers my wife had the Blue Cheese Crostini and I had sushi (evening choice was crawfish) both well worth the eating. For our main course my wife had stuffed shrimp n grits, I had a bite and it was soooooo good, unbelievable. I had the pepper encrusted tuna with ponzu sauce, while delicious, the pepper crust washed off with the ponzu sauce, but I added some black pepper and it twas better. We both had sides of asparagus that were really top notch, plus I had some well steamed broccoli. For dessert we shared a crme brulee. Reeeaaalllyy delicious. All in all a wonderful evening, I didn’t even mind the walk back.
Not the least bit impressed. Wife’s martini glass still had very visible lipstick lip prints from previous patron. Service wasn’t bad but the food was very bland. I had the elk tenderloin and my wife had the almond encrusted mahi. Neither tasted like they had been seasoned with anything. Grilled asparagus and spaghetti squash was undercooked. Best part of meal was my steak fries and the wife’s mashed potatoes. Unsat for a $122 meal. Had high expectations but will not be back.
Under new management!! Food choices range from Mac and Cheese with Crawfish tails to Surf and Turf items. Traditional sides of fries, green beans, and mashed potatoes are available as well as items like risotto and grilled asparagus. There is a wine safe on site, so the wine list is extensive. They also have a great selection of cocktails and martinis, as well as, the basics. Plan to spend about $50 per person if you have cocktails, starters, and dinner, but it is well worth every penny!! We visited Diamond Grill for our anniversary. The atmosphere was gorgeous, the food amazing, and the staff attention perfect. We had the Tenderloin Crostini for an appetizer. Delicious!! My husband had the ribeye and I had the veal Oscar. The plates were overflowing, served with fresh rolls, and everything tasted divine. Our waiter, Andrew, was very knowledgeable about the dishes, specials, and the wine list. He was attentive and pleasant, but not overly so. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there and might make it an anniversary tradition!
Chef Mike makes this restaurant a #1 choice in Alexandria. His passion for food is shown on every plate. I especially love the fried green tomatoes, crab cakes, the braised short rib and the fish du jour is always a great choice. Also the restaurant is very beautiful and my good friend Santana is a bartender there so make sure you have a drink at the bar before dinner! 🙂
This is by far the best restaurant in Alexandria! The steaks are awesome! Fish is fresh, wine choices are great and servers are so friendly!05 Feb, 2012Great food, great atmosphere, recommend very much
Was in for dinner tonight (1/12/13). Beautiful place, outstanding service and beyond excellent food! Out server was very attentive an there was barely an empty seat in the house! I was told they have a new menu and I wanted to try everything on it. It all sounded so good My steak was cooked perfectly, the portions are great and the price is reasonable. They have a great wine list and my server was very educated on wine. I met the manager from Boston and he was so pleasant and seemed to fit in to Louisiana (other then his Yankee accent). Im not sure what Karl’s review is about…..(maybe a disgruntled past employee) I didn’t witness any of what he wrote. anyway I would definitely recommend diamond grill.
Enjoyed a nice romantic evening with my bride there. Did not need reservations. Appetizers – crab cakes were good – creole sauce was a little mustardy. Wedge salad with bleu cheese was the BOMB. Main course- I had bacon wrapped scallops- AWESOME. Wife had filet- cooked perfectly and served with butter sauce. Dessert- bread pudding was ok but Creme brulle was FANTASTIC. TJ was a great server. 2 people with drinks and above, $175 before tip. Overall, excellent dining experience and will return frequently.
