I was in town for 1 night and a local friend recommended Diamond Grill. She warned me that it was good but pricey, and she was definitely correct. The only disappointment was the service. While it wasn’t horrible, it was not what we expected at this price point. The hostess was amazing, but our server Shad seemed a little condescending to us, while he did know his stuff. It took a while to be greeted and maybe he was busy. After a while the hostess came back to check on us to see if we had been greeted yet, which was good. Now for the good stuff – everything else. We started with a wild mushrooms toast as an appetizer and it was very interesting. We got it because we both love goat cheese and the flavors of the mushrooms and sauce on top were unique and absolutely delicious in combination with the goat cheese. We loved it and it was not like anything we have had before. Then I ordered one of the evening’s specials, which was seared scallops with lump crabmeat and smoked salmon. It came with two sides, and I chose the grilled asparagus and Parmesan risotto. Everything on my plate was absolutely spectacular. My friend ordered the fillet cooked medium rare with a bone marrow sauce over blue cheese mashed potatoes. The steak was unbelievably tender, and absolutely delicious. The only thing was that the steak was almost room temperature, and was not hot. That is the only thing that would’ve made it better. Also we could not taste the blue cheese in the potatoes, which was a minor disappointment. My scallops were not hot either, so maybe your plates just sat in the window too long. The ambience was nice and romantic. It is in an old jewelry store, which was a pretty building. The rolls they serve at the beginning of the meal where like beignets without sugar. I ate lunch at a barbecue restaurant earlier that day, and they also had similar beignet rolls. Seems like that may be a thing in Alexandria, but not sure. They were OK to me, but I would have preferred them with a little sugar or a sweet honey butter. Being from New Orleans, I guess I’m used to sweet beignets. Overall, I recommend this restaurants to anyone visiting Alexandria, but be prepared to pay $30-$45 per entre. It was an amazing dinner.
