I took my children to Mandarin today. We were on our way to another similar restaurant not far away when I noticed it from the road. It is a Refreshing addition to the Alexandria area. The restaurant is clean and the staff is courteous. We will be back!
Its really hard to review food at a place like this that offers countless items, varying in style and genre. I think if you’ve been to one Chinese restaurant you’ve been to them all (American Chinese that is). However, the food quality here is pretty outstanding in my opinion. It tasted fresh, the texture of my food was in line with standards and it smelled great.I feel like it’s too early to judge this location on quality assurance and control, but from what I experienced it was an absolute delight compared to other Chinese restaurants around town. I prefer this one over Oriental Wok. In fact, if they keep up their standards I will make this my exclusive choice, personally.Since this is such a new restaurant I will have to limit my review on the food, because they haven’t really had an opportunity to mess up yet if that makes sense. Usually quick service, casual dining establishments slack on quality control over time. However, I had a sushi roll and veggie spring roll and the spring roll was amazing! So fresh and nostalgic! Really good. Really good! Your experience may differ but my general consensus of the food quality is that its handled well and professionally and tastes great. Their sweet tea is pretty good too!As for the restaurant, its beautiful, clean, and brand new! You feel cool just walking into it with the gorgeous doors. The only constructive feedback I would offer them is work on hospitality. They are brand new restaurant and it was really hard to crack a smile out of the hostess/cashier. It may be because she’s busy or overworked, I can’t say because I don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes, but it didn’t feel like she wanted to be there, at all. Conversation was abrupt and awkward. I ordered my food to go and she walked up to me and literally just put it in front of my face without saying anything (I was looking down at my phone) Just awkward. However, it was a fast and efficient ordering process. I believe I got my food to go after ordering in about 10 minutes (keep in mind I just got a sushi roll and spring roll so your results may vary) And this is when they were busy during lunch rush. For anyone wondering, I got the Red Dragon Roll which is a California roll topped with tuna, and if you’ve had them at ‘shady’ places you may be familiar with the ‘tap water’ after taste in the tuna, this one did not have an aftertaste. Really good and fresh. In total my meal was $20 so its on par with your other casual dining sushi restaurant. Sushi is like tattoos in my opinion, you get what you pay for. So good things all around for this establishment. Time will tell on where they stand in keeping standards and the image they have built for themselves now. I hope it lasts because it was a pleasant experience. And I have been looking for a great sushi place that doesn’t feel like a chore ordering. This place offers a lot of sushi rolls! I personally wish they throw in a fried roll in there somewhere. But generally speaking, this is a great choice for sushi due to it being new, you get fresh ingredients at comparable prices. They have a spicy tuna roll for $6! That’s fantastic they keep the price like that instead of taking advantage of a customers convenience. I’d rather get $6 spicy tuna roll from here instead of running to a Kroger or Albertsons and grab their ‘lunch sushi’ if it’s only $6Lets hope they keep up the good work and maintain this atmosphere & presence. I’ll dine in next time and edit my review as time goes by to accurately portray their current environment.
Nice big clean place, terrific Mongolian Beef and Sushi. Very busy because it just opened recently. Good restrooms and friendly staff. Order did not take an undue amount of time considering how busy it was. My wife and I left happy and full. Menu and uniforms hint at involvement with Oriental Wok but couldn’t swear to it. Worth a trip but be careful of the traffic around the nearby intersection and the service road, which is not their fault just a tip.
