The wait was very very long. My two daughters and I arrived at 7:15 on a friday night durring lent so I expected a wait. I just did not expect over an hour. After we ordered we sat and waited and waited. There was a period of over 30 minutes where no one had in the entire restraunt had food. There was 2 men refilling peanuts and ketchup they would have been more help in the kitchen helping get food out.
Really good. I moved to alexandria from baton rouge a couple of years ago and i have not been able to find seafood out here that even compares to what they have to offer down there, until i tried smackin macks. I decided to check out a small place after being disappointed with the restaurants ive tried. Anyway the catfish and tarter were awesome. The oysters were good too. Gotta tell them crispy because their regular frying on them seems a hair underdone for my taste. But that might just be me. I didnt try the shrimp so i dont have an opinion on them. Its the best seafood ive found out here so far. Still have a few other places to check out.

Another great lunch!08 Aug, 2013I love it!!!!! They have the best fried seafood, catfish and onion rings I have ever had. My husband takes me there anytime we are in town. Their fried green tomatoes are also very good. The service and staff are always friendly and fast!!
ULTIMATE IN SEAFOOD!!!. I love Smackin Mack’s Catfish. If you enjoy fresh seafood and friendly service, this is the place. I absolutely am a fan of their ONION RINGS……they are always fresh and made to order, and the amount you get is more than I alone could eat, but somehow I always eat them all:). This is my favorite place to get some fresh, delicious seafood!! And now PEANUTS are back!!! Yum-E.
FAIL. First time to eat at this restaurant – and also the last. French fries were undercooked and soggy, the hush puppies were so dry, I actually had to drink water to be able to swallow them!! The fish itself came in weird, thin strips (not filets), but was decent tasting. I ordered about 25 pieces of fish, but was only given one tiny plastic container with about 2 tablespoons of tartar sauce. The fried pickles were horrible! Hardly NONE of the batter remained on the pickles after being fried. Overpriced and yucky.
Yum yum on some. Fabulous potatoe salad!!! would sugeest large family size oder and act like you cooked and prepared yourself.
