SAVE YOUR MONEY. Why are there no current reviews of this tourist trap? Food was mediocre at best. I wanted to love it, but while the unique setting was very appealing, the food was not. Bland, overpriced and mediocre sum it up. Much better seafood found closer to civilization. If you want to explore the historic cabin, stop by for some of their oft-mentioned buttermilk pie. They were out, so we couldnt even judge the accuracy of this claim. But $100 for the food we were served was highway robbery,

The worst place I have ever eaten. Went during the week and seemed like we got what was left. I have never seen a sparse dried up seafood platter before.

I remember dining here several years ago (late-90s) and it was really, really bad. Well, my wife and I were in the area were in the area so I decided to give it another shot, and I’m glad we did! First off, this is a really cool place with a lot of character and they really could make a killing if they hired a top-notch chef to run the place. Still, as is, it was still pretty good. I started off with the chicken & sausage gumbo, which was served with potato salad (like I prefer) and rice sprinkled with file’ powder. This was the most disappointing part of the meal; the gumbo wasn’t dark enough and had weak flavor. For my lunch entree I chose the white beans and rice with fresh sausage, and it was very, very good. My wife had the tilapia (garbage fish, imo, but she likes it) which was well-seasoned and topped with sauted onions and mushrooms. She enjoyed it. Overall we were pleased with our meal and I would return again if we were in Burnside.

Truly my favorite gumbo!! It is simple and delicious. If you are expecting a thick complex gumbo you would be disappointed but the simplicity and flavor of this chicken/sausage gumbo makes it a winner! They also serve you a simple and delicious potato salad to go with your gumbo, it’s basic but very very good

Food and Service were Ok. Nice rustic, casual atmosphere. We visited for lunch and were promptly seated by a friendly host in a beautiful room with a tall cathedral ceiling. We ordered the cabin special (gumbo, jambalaya, and black-eyed peas) and a shrimp poboy. The food was just ok. The gumbo was a little salty and the roux was a little light, but it was decent- overall I’d give it a 5/10. The jambalaya was disappointing all together. It was oily and lacked the onion flavor that a brown jambalaya should have – overall a 2/10. The black-eyed peas were good – 8/10. I was warned by multiple people that the cabin had decent service/atmosphere but mediocre food at a relatively high price. I tend to agree with this assessment. The only thing impressive about our visit was the beautiful wood planked cathedral ceilings.

Unique setting. The service was good. Our waitress basically came out and said the lemon ice box pie was store bought but really good; hilarious. And she was right…on both counts. The buttermilk pie IS homemade, and is a must have if you go. The stuffed mushrooms were nice, but not a lot of shrooms for the price. The fried crab claws were huge and tasted fresh. The fried catfish was solid, as was the rest of the entrees minus the oysters. The oysters were very small and were not fresh. Really, really good chicken and sausage gumbo. Standard offerings, very unique setting off the beaten path. It’s worth the trip if you want to drive from either Nola or BR.

Good Home Cooking. My wife, son and I went to the Cabin yesterday for lunch. It was probably our 3rd or 4th trip since we moved to Pville 15 years ago. As usual it was a nice visit. One suggestion – and maybe I missed it on the menu. There appeared to only be one real Steak Option it was a 14 Oz Ribeye at 25.95. I’d suggest maybe a bit smaller Steak would fit better in your price range for other foods. We had a couple hburger steaks and a chicken dish. All were cooked great and tasted great. One other suggestion come to think of it….. The brown gray appeared to be exactly like the gravy that I made from a packet at Western Sizzling 35 years ago. It was that thick, gooey type that appeared to be either from a packet or canned. I would have preferred more of an au jus type of gravy.
