***THIS REVIEW IS FOR THE DENHAM SPRINGS LOCATION***Ive eaten from Cafe American twice now- once in the restaurant for lunch on a Saturday, and once with delivery from Waitr on a Sunday night. The first time, the server seemed inexperienced but was very polite. I loved the atmosphere inside the restaurant, especially the artwork. We had the coconut almond shrimp appetizer and loved It. The batter was delicious and crispy, and we loved the sweet sauce. It was the highlight of our lunch. I had the fried crawfish salad special and was not at all impressed. I dont think any salad should not have cheese, but this one didnt. I asked for some to be added. It was huge and there were a ton of crawfish. The ranch dressing was good. I did not like the batter on the crawfish at all. It was missing something but I could not put my finger on what it was. It was just blah. My boyfriend had the blue cheese burger which was very good. He also had a mojito and it was missing a lot of simple syrup and was not sweet at all as a mojito should be. He added sugar at the table and it improved a little. The waiter did let us know it was this bartenders first time making one and asked for feedback, which we appreciated, so we gave him the feedback. This time I used Waitr to eat at home. I got the coconut almond shrimp again which were as good as I remembered. This time I got the New Orleans stuffed shrimp which were wrapped in as catfish filet and then fried, and topped with a seafood sauce. This was delicious. Another reviewer said it wasnt seasoned enough but I didnt find that today (maybe they improved?). The stuffed potato was also good. I dont like dirty rice generally but it came with a small scoop and I actually enjoyed it. The bread it came with was also good. I was pleased with this dish. I also got cheesecake with raspberry topping. The topping was excellent. The flavor of the cheesecake was also good but it tasted like eating a block of cream cheese. I love cream cheese so this was ok with me but I would have prefer it to be smoother. I think the issue was the cream cheese wasnt softened enough when mixing the batter, so it was in big chucks throughout the cake. I hope that was an error and not intentional because it was very lumpy when eating. Texturally, this was bothersome. Overall, I would hope for some improvement in some areas but it was pretty good. I hope it gets better because I like having another good seafood option available near home. Im rooting for it and I will be back.

Wife and I went here for dinner and we both ordered the shrimp Orleans which is a stuffed shrimp wrapped with a piece of catfish then battered and fried. The dish came with good sides: asparagus and salad, both of which were good. However the shrimp Orleans was lacking in flavor and seasonings and was pretty much bland. The fried green tomatoes with lump crab meat as our appetizer was average. We ordered fried catfish for the 2 grandkids and I tried a piece of it and it had a fishy taste, indicating not too fresh. Service was good.

Food was decent. Service was below average. I won’t trip over my feet to go back but I won’t totally write the place off either. My main complaint would be the service was kind of deficient.
