One of my top 2 favorite places to get coffee in Baton Rouge. I’m really particular about my coffee theirs is ALWAYS delicious, never tastes burned, and puts a great spin on my day. Contrary to what others have posted here, I’ve never had a negative experience with the staff and they’re always friendly and quick.

Solid coffee, nice atmosphere, friendly and personal baristas, but if you come to coffee shops for the wi-fi, look elsewhere. Unbearably slow internet. I come here a lot but I may not be back.

Ugh.. Who doesn’t want to love a local, independent, non-chain coffee shop? GD makes it hard if not impossible to do so. Their coffee is bad. The owner is rude (and only hires — so it seems white, female, attractive, under-25 hipsters as barristas. They are all nice, but there are other people in the world. Plus, hiring hipsters does not promise that your establishment will be hip). The lovely courtyard/outdoor seating is usually full of smokers (it’s great to offer an area for smokers – but you could also make some of it non-smoking). The food offerings are very limited and not tasty. They only provide 1/2 and 1/2 (no milk etc.) at the area where you prep your own coffee — and only offer the pink crap as an alternative sweetener (no stevia, blue stuff, splenda…). The inside area needs some work (the painting etc. after the new owner took it over is great)- especially the order counter area. To sum it up: crappy coffee and food, rude owner, unpleasant ambiance.

Outstanding all around. I’ve never been to a coffee shop quite like Garden District coffee house before. It is so refreshing to see a business take pride in their product and be able to be consistent as well. I’ve been a patron of GDC for over a year now and i’ve always been treated with the upmost respect by every barista that i’ve been served by. The owner roasts the beans every other day so the coffee and espresso is always fresh, I highly recommend checking it out. I also feel like it’s a smarter choice to help out small businesses rather than big corporations.

Unfriendly coffee house. I used to go to this coffee house once and sometimes twice a week. I would take my daughter to dance and get coffee and some type of cookie. I had to take my two other kids with me tonight because their dad had to work late. I bought my usual coffee and helped my son with his homework and played on my nook. My husband called and said he had dinner for the kids to help me out because we won’t get on our way home until after 7:30. I sat them on a bench outside and went in to purchase a cookie or some cake for each of them. The ponytail jerk ran inside to tell the girl to kick out my kids while I am trying to buy treats since that is all they have. They do not serve dinner type food. I am not trying to get away with bringing in the same type of food so I don’t buy their overpriced treats. I did not seat them at a table just a bench so paying customers would not be put out. The gutless man could not tell me to my face or listen to me and what I was doing. There are people who go in drink the cheapest drink then nurse water just to have free internet. It was not as if my kids were not well behaved or causing problems; we just had some chicken fingers from Raising Cains (#1 place) and I was going to buy their treats. I will NEVER go there again and anyone else I can tell this to I hope will also not go there if not ever at least not as much. I will find a friendly place to spend my money and my time.

For great coffee…keep moving down the road a bit. So excited that there is a new coffee shop right down the street that knows how to make great coffee, has great customer service and a wonderful atmosphere! these are not the case for garden district coffee… but keep moving on down the road about a mile and you will find the wonderful magpie cafe.24 May, 2012Coffee not great. Won’t be spending money there again. Used to love Perk’s but not this place.

Owner and the 2 baristas were, by Emily Post or Amy vanderbilt’s standards, rude and without manners. I will not be a returning customer/patron. Rarely have I encountered such a callus group. I recommend Highland Coffees or CC’s any day of the week.
