Small Portions, high prices. While I like the food at Jay’s, I do not go there anymore. A BBQ Poboy, about 1/2 order of fries and water costs nearly $12. I go in hungry and leave hungry. They are very skimpy with the meat on the sandwiches and even the French Fries. There are much better lunch values around town. Sad, though, as they are nice people.
My Husband and I tried Jay’s for the first time today and were extremely disappointed. We paid the same amount that we would have at TJ Ribs and got food that in no way compares to the price. I could live with the dry tasteless meat (between the 2 of us we had pork, chicken, beef, and sausage) but the molded bread and stale sides were enough to make me regret spending the $30 enough to call them and let them know. To their credit, they offered my money back if I’d drive the 20 minutes back to their store with the food. After a long day, that’s not going to happen and neither is my money return.
Can’t Beat Jay’s Bar-B-Q. I have been eating at Jays since I was a small child. Growing up a block off Government Street my family were Jay’s regulars. When I grew up and moved out to SE Baton Rouge, my family began eating at the Jay’s on Coursey. My 2 kids were practically raised on Jay’s and we have watched their kids grow as well. Now our grandchildren enjoy it too! Jay’s is a family tradition and that is because they are good at what they do. Their beef is lean and flavorful and the sauce is amazing. We recommend any item on the menu. Free drink refills and I have never had a bad meal at Jay’s. We have learned that you get what you pay for and our money is well spent at Jay’s!
Blecch. Worst sides I’ve ever had. The bbq is OK (only OK), but not worth returning for.
Good, friendly service. However, food was disappointing! Turkey and ribs were flavorless and lifeless – totally lacking smoked or grilled flavor. Potato sald was mediocre and needed mustard. Beans and bread were hard and not too good. I will not return.
Love it. You can’t beat that chopped beef poboy here. The pork is great too. Both sauces are great including the hickory. Fried okra is a great side. Real friendly people and good service.
The food is good, but the prices are a joke. $10 for a little cheeseburger & fry is insane.
