Very elegant atmosphere. Really good wine. The the hallelujah crab is amazing. Appropriately named. Crispy fried shell on the side. Juicy crab meat in the inside. Topped with amazing hollandaise sauce.

Juban’s is a great location if you are looking for authentic creole/southern food. The location has been there for over 30 years, the staff and service provided is top notch. Everyone is so accommodating and professional from when you walk through the doors. The dining rooms are elegant with an old southern decor. We recently went for a business lunch – I had the braised pork belly for an appetizer which was delicious, of course I had to have the Hallelujah Crab for my lunch which was beautiful and delicious. Another person in our party had the crab cakes which they said were very good. If you are looking for an upscale lunch or dinner, or special occasion, this is a very nice place to go. heydelhiblog.wordpress.com

Normally I love going to Juban’s but today it was very disappointing. My sister and I ordered the seafood salad as we have many times and we were quite surprised by how old the crabmeat looked and how small and slimy the shrimp were. I might think twice before I head out there again. It would have been better for them to say they were out of that than to serve such low quality seafood.

Quite possibly the most overrated restaurant in Baton Rouge. I’ve been three times now, and I just don’t understand the hype. I just went for brunch and I ordered the pain perdu (French toast), chicken liver salad, and Hallelujah Crab. The pain perdu was obviously cooked in a pan that was too hot, leading to a burnt black crust. The salad was pretty good, if you like chicken livers (and I do.) The Hallelujah Crab, their signature dish, looked much better than it tasted. It was served which some nondescript hash which was an absolute embarrassment and was stuffed with a mush full of shrimp that weren’t even deveined (one of my pet peeves.) I’m not sure what it is, but everything about the food — the plating, the preparation, etc. — just seems amateurish. I’ve noticed quite a few restaurants in the LSU area that receive a lot of acclaim by locals that really aren’t very good — I assume it’s due to the young college crowd and young professionals whose palates aren’t refined enough yet to understand what really good food is?

Do you want to take a person to a special place? This is the place. Fancy, elegant and delicious food. Worth paying the price. The cuisine is excellent and waiters are very polite also.

Juban’s is a delicious fine dining restaurant, and the food has never been less than excuisite on my many visits. I’ve found the service to be inconsistent though and not always up to par with the food. Sometimes it surprises me that some of the servers, while always friendly, seem to lack experience. The atmosphere is romantic, classic, cozy and not trendy or modern. The atrium over the bar is nice when visiting for lunch. I’ve been to several catered luncheons and large events here, as well as normal lunches, Easter brunch, and dinner. I work downtown so it’s close for business lunches. The flavors of all of the foods are artistically crafted. I have never tasted anything here that was not delicious, from the sensation salad all the way to the chocolate chip pecan pie. The crab cakes are the best I’ve ever tasted. Everything is. Even the iced tea is delicious!

Not a Good Night. My guests and I chose to dine at Juban’s on Saturday night and called when the restaurant opened to make a reservation for that evening. My initial concern upon being seated was that our table was in a room with 2 tables that were set up for large parties. We hoped that we would be able to enjoy a quiet evening and possibly be finished before the groups arrived for the other tables. However, that was not to be and once both large groups were seated, all subsequent conversations were impossible. My advice is to not seat any small parties (there were 3 of us) in rooms that are also configured for parties greater than 8 (and both of the parties in our room had more than 10 people). One in our party had a allergy to broccoli and we specifically asked the waiter to bring her plate with a different vegetable. However, her plate was served with broccoli anyway. We asked for it to be replaced per our request, and it was, except the kitchen staff only removed the broccoli and replaced it with asparagus without removing the rest of the food that had been in contact with the liquid from the broccoli. At this point in the meal, we decided to finish as quickly as possible and leave since we were not able to even have a conversation with the waiter without shouting.Needless to say, I think it will be quite some time before we consider eating at Juban’s.
