I didnt know what to expect with La Contea but had looked at their menu online and it looked great. When we got there I realized it had replaced DeAngelos, but is a completely different restaurant. They redid the dining room and it is a modern, clean, and romantic atmosphere. The Italian music playing on the speakers added to the ambience and I loved it. We went on a Monday night at 7 oclock and we were one of three tables in the restaurant. I hope they are busier on other nights because I would like it to stay around. For being so slow, the food was very slow to come to the table. However, we got the sense that everything was cooked from scratch so this is understandable. I hope that when theyre busy it doesnt take longer though. The service was excellent as far as personality of the servers. We felt it was a little slow because we had to ask for drink refills, and the restaurant was dead. But the servers were very friendly, professional, and accommodating. We asked our server to light the candle on our table and she gladly obliged. Some of the menu items were reminiscent of items I had at restaurants in Rome, such as the clam pasta. I had veal piccata and substituted angel hair for the spaghetti. It was very flavorful. It was a lot more liquidy/wet than I was expecting and normally like, but it was good. I only wish they had cooked the veal a little longer. It was cooked enough, but it wouldve been nice to have a little browning, as it looked almost as if it were steamed or boiled (you can see what I mean in the photo). It was very tender though. The shrimp scampi pasta was DIVINE. Perfect other than being a little more wet than we prefer. The side house salad wouldve been perfect with some shaved Parmesan. Im not much on a salad without cheese. We also had the crab stuffed mushrooms appetizer, and I loved them and the tomato sauce they were served with. Again my only suggestion on this dish would be to have cooked them a little longer so that the mushrooms and cheese browned a bit. It also felt like the mushrooms were steamed rather than baked. But all of the flavors and presentations were delicious. You just love garlic to eat here. Everything was full of garlic, which I happen to love. Portion size on our entrees was just right- not too little and not too much. Loved the garlic knots! The iced tea was perfect. I was impressed. With the selection of Italian desserts, but we settled on a lava cake which is pretty standard American restaurants. I enjoyed it and Im looking forward to returning to try more dishes.
