SO good and a great atmosphere! Ive only been a handful of times but they never disappoint. The oysters are fresh and delicious! This is an old school Baton Rouge place that was reopened by the original Phils children and theyve truly memorialized him and his legacy by giving this gift to Baton Rouge. Thanks guys!
I will have to say after my first visit here I am somewhat disappointed overall.Walking in I loved the vibe and ambience. Part seafood house, part sports bar with plenty of room and lots of TV’s for catching the game.Sat at the bar and perused the offerings for drinks which are pretty limited in scope for their surroundings. When your top Bourbon is something I will not even consider there is an issue. Very limited in all liquors and beers were limited to Canebrake, Tin Roof and three bottled locals. I did enjoy the frozen mugs for the beer. Took a bit to get a bartender over to us. We were a couple of minutes from leaving in fact but once she showed up we were in pretty good shape. Half dozen raw at $8.49 was our app order. (Full is $13.99). A bit high in my opinion and when we got them they were not very attractively shucked and we were not all that impressed with them. Tasted ok but way down the list for us as far as appearance, size and price. Fried seafood comes with fries and slaw and said no subs. Grilled items came with salad and two sides. Weird. Our server did deviate however and let us order salad and baked to split the $25 fried seafood plate. It was fine but so much stuffing and breading on the crab balls and stuffed shrimp. One oyster was so large it was kind of gross to eat with so much gray matter it took four bites. Salads were serviceable and housemade dressings good. Note: there was a fairly long delay between salad and entree delivery.Very filling plate, even for two. We had a delay at the end as well getting bill paid but not too big an issue. They need better iced tea in house as well.We may venture in again for a snack and try the chargrilleds but now know what to expect in limited bar variety and pretty pricey raw oysters.
