Excellent food, Excellent service, excellent beer selection. Just can’t beat it. Except….. Small menu and some items are a little salty. Okay okay… A lot salty, but good.
We were visiting from out of state and picked the place based on the reviews. Our experience was not so great – some of the food we ordered was absolutely inedible. We ordered fried alligator, it was extremely salty, even my husband, he will literally eat anything, would not eat it for how salty it was. Po boy was so so, we’ve had better po boys outside of Louisiana, some of the side items, like the mixed vegetables, were inedible as well, just bunch of very large scraps of under-cooked broccoli and cauliflower. It was like they don’t care about what they cook or how they cook. I have observed a very large drink selection and prices were inexpensive, so perhaps once patrons consume a few, the food starts tasting better? We will not be going back or recommending this place.
Definitely not one of the better places here in Baton Rouge. Very basic, lower quality food. If you want somewhere better quality that has great seafood I suggest Parains or Mike Andersons both very close to campus. Last time we went service was pretty bad and none of the food was good. My friend asked for her burger well done and the burger wasn’t even cooked to medium. My shrimp poboy was ok. Nothing great. There are a lot better restaurants than this one.
Great food, and lots of it, as well as a fantastic beer selection. Must have gotten one of the better service as she was excellent, continually checking up to make sure I had everything I wanted. Another Baton Rouge institutions that actually lives up to its reputation.
Chimes is a great place to hang out for me since I live nearby. Whether it be for drinks or food (or both), I have never been let down. The bartenders are usually quick to serve even if the place is packed. I always applaud a bar that can serve a legitimate Moscow Mule. I’ve had several different entrees, and while they won’t blow you away, you’ll get great food every time. Definitely would recommend this place to anyone who lives in the Baton Rouge area and anyone visiting.
Have always had a soft spot in my heart for chimes. The fried oysters plate is great, with a side of red beans and rice instead of fries. Other standouts are the fries bow tie pasta with spinach artichoke dip and the killer bread pudding–best ordered with a side of ice cream to pour on top, which melts over the warm pudding!! Service can be a bit of a crap shoot, not always on top of things, fast, or polite. But it’s a fun place and the food is pretty good. Beer selection is way over the top. You can find just about anything, but they have gone up precipitously on the cost of beer in the past 6 years or so, which is unfortunate.
The best bar and grill in Baton Rouge, hands down. The food is uniformly good but the quality of the waitstaff is variable from good to inattentive.
