Tiger Deaux-nuts has great doughnuts. The atmosphere may be lacking and the aesthetics could be much better but the star of the show, the doughnut, is a perfect find. A little more breakfast on the menu would be nice. I get the sandwiches but they could offer just eggs ect. Address: 5162 Government St, Baton Rouge, LA 70806

This is about as good as it gets in Baton Rouge. This place offers variety and originality unlike any other doughnut shop in the metro area. Their doughnuts are about as light and fluffy as any I have ever tasted, and the ingredients are fresh and delicious.Although the doughnuts are a little on the small side, some of the ingredients are particularly noteworthy. Their chocolate icing when warm is about as satisfyingly delicious as chocolate can be.Yet, there are a couple of reasons why I can’t award them a 5.0.Number one: They are SO DAMN EXPENSIVE. My girlfriend and I got a half-dozen doughnuts and a small coffee and the total came out to more than $11. Personally, I think that’s a bit steep. It’s not like the doughnuts are that large or filling (which is somewhat of a good thing), and therefore the price can seem excessive at times. Number two: You have to catch them at just the right time with certain items, otherwise they are out of stock or are in the process of making them. I don’t mind places that cook to order but this can be a little frustrating at times. Plus, they are not always warm and optimally fresh (a major issue with many craft doughnut operations). The only reason I mention this is because you will notice how much better each doughnut tastes when you manage to order one fresh out the kitchen.Number three: In my opinion, their weekend menu don’t necessarily showcase their best options. There are certain items that I wish they would stock more regularly. Those are my only major gripes with Tiger Deaux-Nuts.I finally had a chance to try one of the breakfast sandwiches, I went with the boudin, egg, and cheese, and all I can say is…WOW. At $5.50, it’s a little pricier than any fast food breakfast sandwich option, but boy do you get your money’s worth in quality, fresh ingredients. The sandwich consists of a fried egg, a slice of what I presumed to be smoked cheddar, and a boudin patty (my first experience with boudin not served as a link or ball). The bread consists of what appears to be an English muffin with a slight maple or vanilla glaze on it. You can also order a glazed doughnut as the bread component for your sandwich for only a dollar more. The cheese was absolutely a perfect salty, savory contrast to the subtle sweetness of the glaze, while the runny yolk of the egg provided a rich, nutritious condiment which, in my opinion, is a thousand times better, and healthier, than butter. The boudin patty managed to stay intact and, again, was further complimented by the presence of the runny yolk. The sandwiches aren’t very big, but boy are they spectacular. Because they are made to order, you might have to wait a few minutes while the sandwich is assembled. But why wait when you can just snack on a doughnut in the mean time? There are still a number of specialty doughnuts that have evaded me thus far but each one I have tried has been delicious and unique.Taste: 9.5/10Cost: 7/10Dining Area/Decor: 6/10Customer Service: 8.5/10Location: 6/10
