To start, the visual and appearance & presentation is great. All the employees were very nice. Drinks were good. The food is mostly commissary . I tried to order fajitas with no onions… sorry cant do it…. its pre- prepared. Order a taco different, cant do that either… its pre- prepared. So if you dont like something exactly the way it is on the menu – dont go. I was very disappointed. They have/had a good thing going there.

Had to try this place out based on the name alone. Velvet cactus. Such a contradiction. Cool little spot with some great music. Meal was a little hit and miss. Fantastic service first and foremost. Very attentive. Salsa was excellent- best Ive had in Louisiana. Queso was pretty solid. Cheese enchiladas were seriously gross. No sauce? Without sauce that is a cheese roll up, covered in cheese. Not to mention that the corn tortillas were chewy and hard to eat. Couldnt even cut with a fork. The street corn was good and I also had a steak taco. Could have lived without whatever sweet sauce was on the taco. Just not my thing. I would definitely come back. Even with the complaints, this is one of the better Mexican options in Baton Rouge.

This was our second lunch here. We enjoyed our food. The service was good. The drinks we ordered (house margarita and rum punch were good.) Our lunch was really good. I had the Chef’s choice tacos (mahi-mahi w/ mango salsa) and really enjoyed them. There was just the right amount of spice with the sweet The sides(grilled veggies and rice) were good as well. All the food was well seasoned and not bland. The atmosphere of the place is kinda nice with all of the local artist’s paintings.

I ABSOLUTELY love this place!! It is currently my favorite restaurant to visit. 5 out of 5 times I’ve eaten here, my taste buds reach pure pleasure! It’s unreal the choices of non typical American Mexican food here. I mean nothing is typical!! I’ve tried the chefs special pork belly tacos which were amazing. Pork Pibil which is some of the tasties smoked pork period! The Cabo quesadilla. Watermelon Fresco during the summertime is crazy good. Plantains are one of my favorite side! The margaritas! I’ve yet to be disappointed on anything. Service has always been great. Atmosphere is really great with a large outside dining area. Place stays very busy so get there before 6 otherwise you will wait. But still worth it if you did!

This is my absolute favorite Mexican restaurant. Funky, fun, casual, and with tons of variety. Best guacamole I have ever had in my life. Always busy, but the wait is never long. The staff is well informed and friendly, and they have great drink specials if you come at the right time. The cucumber orange margarita is my go-to drink. Moderately and reasonably priced. A+, every time.

3rd time was a charm in finally being able to get a parking place & on the list for the wait-which wasn’t too bad. We checked out the bar while we waited, very cool art work etc. Got sat out on the patio, loved all the decor, food was pretty good & drink was delish as well. Service was slacking a bit. We will eventually return.

Very popular. Kinda noisy. People are very friendly and the price isn’t bad. Put it this way they were receiving deliveries at 530 pm for the dinner crowd. Not your traditional restaurant. Try the chef taco and the Mayan quesadilla is awesome.
