Shrimp Grits Appetizer. Wonderful!
Not worth the money. My wife and I went to 2Johns to celebrate our anniversary, but were very disappointed with the overall food quality. For over $120, we should have gotten excellence. As it turned out, only the blackberry cobbler, shrimp cocktail, and mushroom soup measured up.My wife ordered Rustic Caesar Salad and soon wished she hadn’t — very peppery. We enjoyed the shrimp cocktail and mushroom soup, though. When the entrees arrived, we were dismayed at the mediocrity. Grouper in papillote should be outstanding, but it was fishy and did not taste fresh. I specifically asked the waiter if they would cook the large pork chop medium rare with pink inside (the days of fearing trichinosis for farm raised pork are long gone). He said yes, but what he brought me was a beautiful piece of meat with zero pink, medium-well at best. Not nearly as juicy as I’d like, and it was underspiced to the point where I had to put a lot of salt on it to make it taste better. The dessert was the highlight of the meal, excellent blackberry cobbler a la mode. But frankly, the shrimp, soup, and dessert did not nearly make up for the mediocre entrees. We’ve had good experiences here before, so this was a real letdown. One thing I’d advise is to stick to the steaks, which we wish we’d done. Just order them underdone for your taste, as they have a tendency to overcook meat.
