I do not recommend this place at all if you want good sushi. It was better when it first opened, but now if you want raw fish you will have to settle for salmon and tuna; they never have anything else. The last time we went (group of 3) there were only 6 other customers in the restaurant and it took over an hour for us to get our food, they brought out the food and several items on the order were wrong. I love raw fish, but i don’t want it to taste extremely fishy; this stuff tasted like it was in the sun in the back of a truck for a few hours. After we got our food they started grinding up the fish that is used for fake crab right at the sushi bar. They did this with a meat grinder and the whole area smelled like a fish market. I love sushi to the point where I eat it once maybe twice a week and have eaten it all over the country. This is hands down the worst sushi experience I have ever had. I do hear that they do pretty good cooked rolls here though; so if thats your thing you may want to give it a try. If your visiting the area and want sushi give Osaka a try, its the best in the area in my opinion.
Zen is awesome! It’s the best in Houma. I’m a sushi fanatic and have eaten at many other sushi restaurants in Baton Rouge and Nola. Zen is one of the best. My fav is ichiban in Baton Rouge, but zen is definitely the best in Houma. Only complaint is service is sometimes slow and they don’t answer the phone for to go on busy nights. I would like to see them add some different rolls esp some with rice paper and standards that are at other sushi places, but it’s a great restaurant and the only place in Houma I will patron!
Good roll, decent otherwise. I had the sexy tuna roll; it was very good. The fried rice was a lil tough. The weirdest thing was the tempura shrimp didn’t come with sweet soy, and when I asked about it no one seemed to know what it was. The tempura batter was also a lil heavy in my opinion.

Best in Houma. I always get the same roll at any sushi restaurant, the Philly roll (add crunchy). I do this to gauge the quality of ingredients and attention to the easier rolls. Very impressed with the sushi rolls and hibachi.
Discrimination much?. We just tried to eat at Zen in Houma and the restaurant was filled with people in typical summer attire (women in tank tops and exposed bras to be specific). However, we were not allowed a table because my wife has a tank top on. Unbeknownst to us, women are not allowed to wear tank tops in restaurants in Houma now!? NEVER will I eat at Zen again.
