Don’t expect anything earth shattering from a Mexican buffet, and you will be fine. Solid selection of Tex Mex staples. Crispy tacos, fajitas, enchiladas, chile relleno, etc, etc, etc.

My favorite Mexican restaurant in Baton Rouge. Buffet items are always fresh, hot and very tasty. Get the Chiles Rellenos, Pork Fajitas, tamales, refried beans and rice. Great salad and dessert bar. Service is always great and restaurant is always very comfortable and clean!

Would I label this as high-class or even full-fledged, authentic Mexican fare? Nope. Not in the least bit. Its a buffet, ladies and gents. Plain and simple. Dont go here expecting to be wowed or astounded by all sorts of new and exciting flavors. This is pretty much your garden variety Mexican cuisine available throughout Baton Rouge.Yet, despite my relatively passive remarks, I do enjoy this place. The buffet has a large number of offerings including chicken and pork fajita meat, a number of enchiladas, a taco salad bar, and a few other interesting options. The fried plantains, beef tongue, and soup varieties are not found at the majority of other Mexican restaurants in Baton Rouge and are therefore a bit distinct to El Magey. Its easy to fill up on the tasty homemade sopapillas, and there is even tres leches cake available for dessert. However, I do miss the assortment of Kleinpeter ice cream flavors they once carried (I contend that the bananas Foster was one of the best ice creams I have ever tried). El Magey is not cramped despite its deceptively small appearance from outside, although the buffet line can become a little claustrophobic if you poorly time your arrival. The service is excellent at the prices are very affordable. For those who long for the glory days of the once proud Panchos Mexican Buffet, formerly located on Florida Boulevard, you might be in for a disappointment due to the absence of any tableside flag. But, El Magey certainly offers greater quality food than the latest iteration of Panchos. The fried plantains are damn good, as is the majority of the meat. The absence of guacamole and whole black beans upsets me, but I am willing to forgive the staff of El Magey due to their generous supply of pico de gallo and salsa verde. This is a great option for any family looking to relax, pig out, and walk away without a depleted wallet. The service road it is located on can be easy to miss if you are not familiar with the area, so keep a sharp eye out for it if you plan on dining in. Its easily the best Mexican buffet in Baton Rouge, and for good reason. Taste: 6.5/10Cost: 8/10Dining Area/Decor: 7/10Customer Service: 9/10Location: 4/10

Great Buffet. I get my horchata free every time I come hear since my espanol is quite descent for a milkweed I kill the tamales and cheese sauce every time I eat here! They make me reminisce about the days of Panchos Mexican Buffet as the tamales taste the exact same! I love this place a bit hard to get in and out of though

Solid. The lengua was tasty & extremely tender. The chile relleno was cooked perfectly. The only thing I tried that was not so good were the plantains. Great bargain and the staff does a good job of managing the buffet. I will definitely go back.

It was very good. I was very impressed with the food especially since it was a Buffett. It was amazing food.
