Eaten here before and it was better. Calamari was cooked, batter undercooked and presented on a bed of shredded lettuce… not the best. Wife had the sushi and the fish was dated (best way to put it). Most of the drinks on the list were marked out with a sharpie. Waitress was nice and apologetic.
I don’t know whether to be angry or simply irritated. My husband and I sat in the bar area Saturday night to watch the final four game. They were somewhat busy – so we waited… Wondering if maybe we needed to request a menu. (we’re a typical African American couple in our 40s). After 10 minutes, I began HARD STARING at every server who walked past our table. 5 minutes later, a younger White couple came in, sat down, was given a menu & had their order taken within minutes. A young server came to our table with a bead of sweat on his face. He was kind and explained to us that Jenn was our server. We asked where she was and what the issue was, he never gave an answer – but offered us water for our table. We sat there waiting on Jenn for another few minutes debating on whether or not to talk to the manager. Jenn never showed, we left. EDITED TO ADD:An interesting twist – the next morning, my husband and I went to our regular church service and there happened to be a couple at church who had also happened to be sitting at the table next to us at the Kona Grill the night prior (they were also an African American couple in their 40s). They assured us that was just an aberration. They had dined at Kona Grill many times and never seen anything like that before. They encouraged us to go back. So — there you have it. The full story with some follow-up. I doubt I personally will return – but I wanted to share that final part of the story.
