At 7pm the parking lot at Roux 61 was already full. We had to follow folks leaving the restaurant to get their parking place. The atmosphere and decor are perfect, inviting, casual, relaxing. There is a wonderful veranda with an area for feeding the birds and turtles, a must stop before leaving. Save a bit of French bread for the veranda. There was a wait for a table, but, menu has something for everyone, and prices are moderate. They also have a well stocked bar, with a separate area for patrons to have drinks. Our server was excellent as well.I ordered soft shell crab, as I often do when down south. My companions ordered the fish & shrimp combo platter and the steak bites. A serving of cole slaw arrived and the ingredients were fresh and crisp, and perfect size to start a meal. The flavor was on the sweet side and I enjoyed their version. A toasted piece of French bread accompanied. My soft shell crab was next, it was served hot from the fryer. At first I thought they might be overdone because of the darker color. But after tasting them, I realized they had been fried in oil that needed to be changed. Unfortunately the crabs tasted strongly of fish, again, because of the oil. But the crab was cooked tender and with a lot of cocktail sauce, it was edible. My companion’s fish & shrimp combo was delicious. The steak bites were salty tender goodness, and I wished I would have opted for them. I was quite impressed with this dish. The veranda on the back end of the building is lovely. There is a fountain in the water and tons of turtles. Patrons will also find some friendly ducks and geese. And they are expecting to be fed, so I suggest you ask for an extra piece of French bread from your server.Roux 61 was good food, good service, and great atmosphere. Parking can be a challenge, as workers were directing traffic in and out of the parking lot to prevent accidents. Come on a weekday if you can, but enjoy some good food here.
Food was very good my on complaint was that it was very cold and my food got cold before I finished eating. Portions are generous and have something to look forward to for lunch. There is a back deck with a crazy duck who sits on the railing to be the first to get fed. There are a lot of ducks and turtles below and one very clever blue heron who catches fish feeding on crumbs. If your kids love animals don’t miss a trip to the back deck. Save your bread to feed them.
