This has MOVED (awhile ago) to 4800 Laurel, Uptown. Very high quality coffee. Competent, funky, friendly barristas, from owner Lauren on down. The food (prepared til 1pm by Wayne, former of Lilette and other fine places) is excellent for a coffee shop. The southwest salad (baby greens, black beans, quinoa, cheese) was big but light and super tasty and fresh. This coming weekend they are rolling up a bunch of new items that sound utterly amazing (Wayne gave me a preview).I love how it is creating more community and foot traffic off the Magazine St. route ( Pizza Domenica, Guy’s Po Boys, Parcel and Post, New Orleans Fine Art Academy). The revitalized pocket park in front of Cherry’s is awesome, and there’s Grit (fantastic, historic dive bar) on the other end. Cherry ads alot to the park.Very different from the other awesome coffee shops within about 8 blocks (Hey Cafe downriver on Magazine, and Cafe Luna, Hi Volt, District, and chains CCs and PJs upriver). Frankly I wish it were less Portland and more New Orleans, personally. A pic of the old firehouse before it was Cherry, WWOZ instead of the sound track they play (never thrills me).Overall, I really love this place.
Cherry Coffee is without a doubt the very best coffee in New Orleans. In my opinion, nothing even comes close. Every cup has been perfect and delicious. I consider it a treat on the mornings that I have time to stop by on my way to work and enjoy a cup of this wonderful coffee.
