FANTASTIC JAZZ CAFE. Saw Donald Harrison’s quartet at the Prime Example on 25 April. Harrison is certainly in his prime, and his band was simply superb. The Prime Example is an out-of-the-tourist-track nirvana for jazz fans—intimate stage, 50s nightclub atmosphere, fantastic home-cooked cuisine, affordable prices, and a crowd that reveres their jazz idols. And the performers have fun, and play for their home crowd. An unforgettable night in the big easy. Julius Kimbrough is a gracious host and a treasure to be cherished. Go to the Prime Example if you’re a jazz fan, or if you just want to experience the kindness and hospitality that make New Orleans so very special.
