Nice concept, but thats about it. There was the server and the Chef workingon a Friday night. They appeared to be quite proud of that fact, but service and food quality suffered as a result. My cocktail was made incorrectly, but the server was too busy to follow up. Our salads came before the appetizer and we were told that the salads were ready first, so thats what we were getting first. The gumbo was nowhere close to a true gumbo, starting from the color (red) to a lack of any seasoningvery very bland and not even hot sauce fixed it. I ordered the pork chop, which came out 3-5 minutes later than the rest of my table. The pork was RAW. It wasnt a matter of being undercookedthe meat was was raw. Unfortunately, the server never came back to the table to ask and I gave up trying to get her attention. I doubt seriously I will ever go back.
I went to lunch here with my mom. She had a burger with a cup of soup which was gazpacho today. The burger is taller than it is round with a thick slice of tomato, thick slice of onion, and lettuce. You can add your own condiments. Mom was happy. I got the crab Benedict. At the bottom was a thick slice of toasted baguette with two mini crab cakes and two eggs with sauce on top. The eggs seemed to be more fried than poached. The yolk was very loose and runny. The flavors were divine. I liked the crunch of the bread with the softness of the egg and crab cake. There was one waiter, and there were only a handful of tables so the service was efficient. I liked the decor with the repurposed wood and the wall of plates as a piece of art.
Fantastic! Wonderful service and delicious food. We went for dinner and had a lovely little impromptu date night. The Standard is perfect for date night! It has a gorgeous, simple, rustic feel with great atmosphere. The food was amazing! I had the burger, and it had the perfect amount of spice and such a great flavor. It’s up there on my list of favorites in the city. My husband got the pork chop which was huge and equally tasty. We split the brie appetizer with homemade fig jam and we absolutely loved it. It was a great way to start our meal! On top of the excellent food and perfect atmosphere, the service was top notch. Mr. Pierce just made our experience that much better. We can not wait to go back for more date nights and brunch!
