Good food. This is your typical new orleans poboy shop. The menu offers serveral daily special lunch plates too. I love the fried catfish, Two nice filets, lightly floured, fried and served with 2 sides, I got the slaw (tangy, light mayo) and potato salad (creamy no chunks of potato) for $8.50 but the fountain drink and tax takes it up to under $12. I like their red beans and sausage but it is inconsistent depending on how old they are. When fresh they have just the right amount of red bean juice, sometimes the beans get dried out and become thicker on the plate. Poboys are decent. I find that the ratio of meat to bread is OK. They don’t overload the sandwich but it has enough. The bread is the key and they have the perfect traditional french bread which makes for a great roast beef poboy, and I like his beef, tender and sliced thin with the perfect gravy consistency oozing off the sides. Parking is very limited, but the place is pretty big with plenty of tables, Go early for lunch or after the lunch crowd, Order and pay at the counter and they give you a number to put on your table so they can bring it to you. I’ve had their salads, not great, their gumbo, just ok. I like their spaghetti and meatballs too, not overloaded with garlic and sauce is a very good traditional thick tomato gravy (avoiding that awful sugar sweet flavor) Definitely worth a stop if you need some place to eat in the neighborhood.
Good food. I love the Harahan location. I work in the area and we frequent this place often for lunches. The food is always consistent even though the service is a lil off (ex. on numerous occassions they have brought out my french fries when I was more than halfway finished my poboy). They have some of the best catfish I have ever tasted. Also, make it a point to try their mac n cheese w/ gravy. You will be glad you did.
Unsatisfied. Not a good place to eat. The food has way to much salt and other spices…..
This place is amazing. Great people and great food…they should open one of these babies in Kenner
