Very disappointed. A messy place in need of a complete renovation. Dust and dirt everywhere. Unfriendly owner. Shrimp and okra gumbo was lackluster – maybe one small shrimp to be found. Ordered Melvin’s Special Salad – nothing special about lettuce, two tomato slices, and a five grapes. Gin and tonic had lime slice that was brown. We also ordered a steak – pan fried and under seasoned. Overall – Overpriced, unfriendly, and unsanitary place. You will get a much better meal at a fast-food joint. Hard to believe, but true.

Unsure about second chance. Read reviews and it seemed this would be a good place to go…was one of two tables in the restaurant yet we still waited over an hour for food to be served…food was kinda bland…our waitress on the other hand was very accommodating…..also..there was an older heavy set gentleman sitting at a table near the registers…im assuming the owner…we heard him cursing out loud…just wasnt something we expected to hear in this atmosphere

Melvins worth the visit. Went here one evening during a visit to be with my mother during a hospital stay…had to be ’01 or ’02 time frame. Not the easiest place to find, and I grew up in Houma! Tried to go during another visit, but the place was booked for an event…ended up at Chester’s.My sole experience was as good as could have been had at many of the restaurants in NOLA at the time, and was far better than Bilello’s, that old standby. Good interior; back table would have been nicer, but there was no moon and it was, for Houma, relatively late to be eating dinner. I had the soft crab…extremely well prepared…and most of a bottle of Chablis…well served, good quality, good price. The sides I have forgotten, but I remember that the waitress, who was French…good conversation…did remember my wish to have the salad [quite good] aprs le diner. Tres bien! My perception was that Melvin did it right then, so,having relocated to this part of the world, I will re-visit in the near future.I thought then that the place was a relative gem, well worth the visit, and a more-than-welcome addition to the Terrebonne restaurant scene. When I visited, Melvin’s had a somewhat rural French flavor, not the sort of restaurant I would have expected in my former digs. Hm-m-m-m. Hope Melvin is still doing it.

Tonight was my first to dine at Melvin’s, and the experience was better than I had expected, judging by the age of the last reviews. This is a beautiful restaurant, with very friendly staff and excellent food. Service was great. Had a table near t glass doors over looking the patio and the intercostal water way. There were 4 in our party, so we had a wide sampling from the menu: No one was disappointed. The restaurant is a little off the beaten path, rather secluded, which adds to the quite, romantic atmosphere.Have never seen anyone rate the restrooms in a restaurant, but I must say, right down to the restrooms, everything is extremely clean, PERFECT!I would recommend Melvin’s to anyone looking for everything in a GREAT dining experience. You will not regret it!

I’ve held several client events here. Normally banquet food is less quality but here the food was great.

Beautiful location, wondrful food. Melvin Kappel is one of the most talented and knowledgeable chefs in the area. It is the kind offood that makes you want to go back for more. The Crabcakes and Gazpacho last Saturday night were wonderful.Don’t miss the Duck or the Lamb chops. For dessert.my favorite is the Lemon Cake.Whether you want a wonderful meal in a charming environment, a wedding or reception on the porch and grounds by the water, you cannot go wrong here… I highly recommend this restaurant.
