Wonderful!!!. This is the ONLY market in town where you can find an entire section of hard to find Peruvian groceries. Before I had to order online from Miami and that was expensive but Celina’s has everything needed to make delicious Peruvian food!

An authentic restaurant/grocer. From the outside it looks like a cheap, run-down convenience store. As soon as you open it, you find you’re in a new world of cleanliness, brightness, and exotic items. Open Mon-Sat 8 am – 9 pm and Sun 8 am – 6 pm, if you want to find hard to find Latin grocery or cultural items, Celinas should be your first stop. From huge piatas to tiny spices to Latin music CDs, you’ll find it all. On my visits, I’ve never heard a single English as a first language speaker. Everyone in there is speaking Spanish. The music blares with the tunes from tambourims and surdos. After you’re finished strolling the aisles of Latin groceries and a fantastic Latin butcher, the best in the NOLA area, turn into the little cubby arch where you’ll find the taqueria. The menu is large, about six pages and ranges from breakfast items to dinner entrees. I usually order a la carte items. My favorite items are the chicken tacos and the beef steak gordita. The corn tamales are okay, but a bit runny and soggy, much like sweet corn casserole. The pork tamale is a bit better, but I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it. The puppusas are also good. The liquados frescas are not actually fresh, but sugary drinks more like Hi-C than the liquados I’ve had a better Houston taquerias. Don’t expect eating here to be an extremely cheap experience either. Tacos are about 2 or 3 bucks, tamales about 3. Quesadillas, which are good, are 6. Meals with rice and beans range from 7 to 13 dollars. Overall, it’s a clean, enjoyable, authentic, and tasty little restaurant with a home style kitchen and clean, functional seating. Prices are about 10% higher than I think they should be, but there are few places in NOLA that make you feel more like you’re in Honduras than Celinas.
