Probably the best place Ive found to eat in Kenner. There is definitely a bit of a language barrier. But, I spoke to the waitress in English and she spoke to me in Spanish, and it all worked out in the end. First of all- if you order the tamales, and youre used to Mexican tamales, this is a whole different level of tamale. The appetizer comes with 2, and you could make a meal out of that. These are huge tamales stuffed with potatoes, carrot, peas, chicken and olives. Very tasty. I also had the pollo guisado (stewed chicken) which was also delicious. Beans and rice, a large potato and carrots as well as a salad. This all came with a giant tortilla. Needless to say, I am stuffed and currently heading into a food coma. Great spot, worth the search!
The food tasted very good but I am not Peruvian so I cannot judge the authenticity of the food. The staff was very cordial but disorganized. My meal came before the appetizer and I had to wait a very long time and the restaurant was no near half full. My friend ordered a grilled sandwich which came no mayo, no ketchup and had to ask for it. Not being satisfied, she ordered a Peruvian tamal that took again a long time. The waitress brought the ticket before the food and I asked her about the tamal. She looked surprised but said it was in its way but then I saw her add it to the ticket. This was a meal that we had asked her opinion about it so how could she forget. When brought it was packed to go, when it was intended to be consumed at the restaurant. It was delicious but later we found it was lacking all the sauces. My friend noticed on other tables the meals were coming at different times. We were told that the Peruvian chef was on vacation and the owner was cooking… was he alone? They need to get their act together if they want to survive such a competitive market in New Orleans/Kenner. Not sure if I will be back.
Authentic as it gets. No English on the menu and beautiful Spanish men everywhere. Great breakfast. I had the Beleadas, Horchata, and plantains…although they were NOT called that on the menu. Thank you Google Translate. Oh my god. I’m so full.
