Had a great time tonight at LaFonda’s. Good drinks (half and half) flavorful food (pollo loco) great service! Great to spend time with family and friends. Had friends at four or five tables in the dining room. That’s what the La Fonda’s experience is all about!!
Old habits die hard. Many of the reviews that are bad are from people who did not live here in the late 70’s…Back then we went there to socialize…and drink…FOOD was NOT the reason… Everything- especially service -was better when Lee Bob– the original owner –run the place… Many of us still go to LaFonda’s for the same reason… Service is the pits !!! even during Saturday lunch service when there are very few people in there. I blame the Managers for not training their employees… Our lunch bunch (6 of us) will be there today…We’ll complain about the service but have a great time being with friends..
Great atmosphere, great staff…..absolutely the WORST Mexican food I have ever eaten. This is no joke, the chips were tostitos, the salsa was Pace picante, the queso was made with velveeta and the bean dip was cold and hard. I have NO idea why so may people recommend this place…..
Simply Awful. Food was lackluster and service was horrible. The baby boomers drinking in the bar are the only thing that keeps this restaurant alive. Went there with a table of friends and got food and drinks one weeknight and we were the only table there (although some folks at the bar). 30 minutes before close our server told us that they had run out of tortilla chips. That’s like a Cajun place running out of rice! Just doesn’t happen, esp. when the chips are not homemade on-site. Seriously, just tell us that you’d like to go home early and want us to leave, but don’t lie to us about running out of chips. Update: went back there in May 2016 at the request of friends who would not be talked out of going. Food was so horrible that I am off to eat a second lunch. My friend ordered chicken enchiladas and was served some sort of seafood enchiladas (3) which were ghostly pale and tiny on a huge, empty plate and drowned in bechamel for 10 bucks. Looked like unappetizing goop. And this was served in a pretentiously dim restaurant with 1950s interior by a waiter in a bow tie?? Unbelievable. Perhaps Elevated Mexican food could be served that way. Perhaps. But not something that looked like (at BEST) an a la carte order from the state fair. Wake up Lafayette. This place needs to close its doors and our city will be a better place for it.
Great Fried Rabbit. Lafayette institution. Sangria and margaritas are great. Food is only mediocre. The one favorite I have always liked though – fried rabbit. Don’t find it at other places, and it is really, really good here.
Absolutely one of the worst restaurants in Lafayette. Taco Bell’s food is better!
A chili relleno with a sweet tomato sauce and sesame seeds?? Weird. Guacamole salad was flavorless. People having a great time drinking? Yup. Go for the margaritas and order chips.
