My husband and I decided to try it tonight. OMG the Philly cheesesteak sandwich was great and the staff was so friendly, especially the owner Ransey!!!! You go girl, you got this!!
Great place to grab lunch if you work downtown. Staff is always friendly, courteous, and fast. They aren’t offering the most creative sandwiches around, but what they do offer is the closest thing you can get to a genuine cheese steak sandwich in Lafayette. The Phillyana is chopped steak with a generous amount of cheese whiz and onions, nicely seasoned on good bread. Their fries are thin and crispy. This with a cup of water does come in at $11, which is a little steep in my opinion, but it’s flavorful and filling. Turn your half sandwich into a whole, however, and you have a meal for two under $20. This place seems to get less traction than it probably deserves, what with Pop’s being the dominant hip place that it is. If you have a chance, I’d recommend trying it. The pulled pork is also pretty fiya.
I went to a place focused on selling Philly cheese steak and did not order a Philly cheese steak. Instead I ordered the Swamp Fries, which were thin-ish fries covered in shrimp etouffee, cheese, sour, cream, and chives. I’ve had etouffee fries at a place in New Orleans and expected something similar, but was kinda disappointed; the etouffee was there, but didn’t have as much flavor as I wanted. However, I can’t say it was bad because the cheese and sour cream may have muddled the flavor. If you order this because you really want etouffee, I’d suggest having them leave out the sour cream, and maybe the cheese too.I got here around 7:30 pm on a Friday. There was only one other customer the whole time I was there. I imagine though that they’re busier during festivals and college football season. Parking is kinda irritating, as a lot of parking in downtown Lafayette is street and/or metered parking, which I wasn’t expecting. I certainly wouldn’t fight crowds and/or pay to park to get here. Service was very casual – pay beforehand, serve your own drinks – but fine. Ultimately seems like an okay place but with an unfortunate location, because if I were a local I wouldn’t bother dealing with the hassle of that downtown strip for a meal that’s just okay.
We have been wanting to try philyana for sometime so we ordered it on the WaitR app…Decent cheesesteak but seemed to be lacking cheese, if they added more cheese I would rate it a 4. When you order a large you get 2 smalls.
I’ve had more than a few cheesesteaks in Philadelphia, and I find this one to be very true/authentic to that style. Unfortunately, I’ve always found better cheesesteaks outside philly. It will fill your craving if that’s what you’re after. Friendly service. A little pricey.
I recently ordered and had delivered via waitr app.Chopped up bad cuts of meat are still bad cuts of meat. Missing the mark for cheesesteaks…
