Go For the Sushi, but Skip the Chinese Food!. I used to love the Chinese food here! It was one of the best, well, nobody beat Golden China back in the day. The atmosphere is nice, but the Chinese food is lacking. I ordered a simple plate of vegetable lo mein, and it tasted reheated from some earlier preparation. Not the way to go, guys! Also, it was a smaller portion than usual. This was supposed to be a dinner sized portion, but it seemed more like a kid’s meal. I am a 105 pound woman, who is not a big eater, so I just wanted you to know the context of my comment. I used to love the celestial chicken and pepper steak before I was a vegetarian, and they were great! My daughter ordered the sushi, and she was very pleased! So, like I said, go for the sushi and the lovely atmosphere.
Good Food Terrible Service. I have been to the Shangri La twice now. My husband and I had the stir fry dishes and ordered sushi. The stir fry is fabulous and the sushi is decent. However, the service is terrible. Unfortunately, we had the same young woman wait on us both times. She never refilled our drinks, went missing for long periods of time and let our food sit at the expedite counter while we went hungry. In the meantime, the restaurant was half empty and the 5 or 6 waiters on duty were back talking and goofing off at the wait station behind us. On our second visit, the waitress sat down at the booth in front of us to socialize for a long time while we waited for my husband to get a refill on his water. It was infuriating. The food is decent but it is obvious that it is a poorly managed restaurant. Too many wait staff standing around hanging out, while tables are dirty, food is waiting to be picked up and customers go thirsty.
Terrible servers. I asked the waitress how they marinated the squid for the squid salad and she told me she didn’t know and that it came out of a bag… Gross. While eating the fairly empty and quiet restaurant erupted with yelling because the same server was arguing with a customer. First and last time going there…if i wanna be yelled at I’ll call my parents and listen to them complain about why I’m still in college instead.
This was my first time eating here and food was great and the atmosphere was also good!The waiters are so nice and food comes in pretty big portions. I would definitely recomend this place to anyone searching for good Asian food and good service! And the sushi here is AWESOMEEE!
Shangri Las – Great!!. This is a restaurant we go to pretty often, and we love it. For the most part we like to go and sit at the sushi bar where they give you complimentary cucumber/seaweed salad. The sushi rolls are delicious, and service is always good to us. The best hibachi in town!
Best Sushi. The Cowboy Roll and the Lafayette Crunchy Roll are the Best. I crave the Cowboy Roll all the time. Also try the Passion Fruit Saki.
The first time we went we enjoyed the Hibachi side with some sushi, the only downside was that our cook knocked over the high chair that was holding the baby seat, thankfully we had just taken him out. Other than that all food was great as was the service and the chef. Enjoyed it so much I returned with a friend and had sushi again and we plan on going back again and again. Some of the best sushi around.
