This is a good concept restaurant recently open in LFT. No inside seating–it’s a Biergarten. Wurst is made locally. Nice beer selection and a peaceful location to people watch right in downtown. I give the setting four stars. I unfortunately must give the menu three stars. Have had a lot of experience with Biergarten and wurst gastropubs. When I visited this place there was only one thing on the menu besides fries (actually there were two but they were out of one!). In other words, unless you’re drunk and migrating to another bar at 11 on a Friday night, I hope you like the one item the Wurst Biergarten is serving. A great concept that could’ve been a destination for great wurst and a German Gastropubs feel falls short. Despite the bearded hipster serving drinks there were a few things missing. No lamb dogs? How about gator, deer, duck, or other wild game sausages? Or at least a grilled Andouille or smoked sausage Cajun offering?? Other complaints are that the wurst are sort of small, served on a soft Semmel. And the beer is a little pricey. That’s unfortunate because someone going there for the food may be disappointed, and someone going for the beer may be shocked at their bill. One last note–why hire someone to sit and card customers at the gate? That doesn’t feel like a Biergarten, it feels like a sleazy club. Have the single bartender/server in the window card customers. There is a lot of potential to this place, and it’ll be fun to watch this the Wurst Biergarten and see what it decides to become. My hope is that this place will rise to become a sausage Mecca in the sausage hotspot of south Louisiana.
