Most visitors to Lake Charles, Louisiana visit so they can spend most or all of their time at one of the resorts. You could easily make your resort the complete focus of a full vacation stay, but if you really want to get to know Lake Charles, you need to venture into the city and surrounding areas at least once, because it is here that you can get a taste of the local culture. And a great place to achieve exactly that is Botskys in dowtown. Botskys is best known for its hot dogs and most everyone who visits will end up going for one of these long pieces of meat wrapped on a bun with assorted toppings. They serve the usual Kobe beef, but there are other options for more adventurous types, among them duck and alligator. Plus, they have toppings not often found at other restaurants, such as fried eggs, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, even pineapple. If you dont feel like a dog, there are other choices, too, like burgers. Every food item is prepared with the utmost care, to your liking.To order at Botskys, you walk to the front counter and make your selection. They have a board right in front that displays the meat options, toppings, and sides. Each added topping carries its own price and they can add up if you decide to overload your dog, but this is nice because you can create exactly what you like. For sides, they have different options, but I recommend the sweet potato fries. They are delicious and much better than the traditional variety. They have a nice assortment of beer, too, with local and other brews.The inside of Botskys is warehouse- like, with brick walls, an exposed ceiling with pipes and vents on display, and a scattering of pictures on the walls. Botskys doesnt try to win you over with glamorous aesthetics, but once you taste the food, you wont care. Botskys is a quick serve place with some great local fare and a visit is a must when in the Lake Charles area. I cant wait to return again, with the family next time, and let them experience some of the best in local eating, right here in downtown Lake Charles. greatbeernow.com
