This place is great.. Gumbo is always good (sorry reviewer below; you’re wrong). Last time we’ve been here, about 8 weeks ago, the oysters/halfshell were great as always. Even though we didn’t have the Bienville this last time, it is always good too. And good margeritas. Chastain’s is one of the best established restaurants in the city.
I asked about a good local place for Cajun seafood, I was especially interested in gumbo. This was far from what we expected and the worst gumbo I’ve ever eaten! We had to stop somewhere when we left there to get the taste put of our mouths.
Steak/gumbo. Rib eye was excellent. Gumbo very good although being a Tennessean I am no expert on gumbo. We would return service excellent and friendly

Best Fried Shrimp Po-Boy in LC!. I’ve wanted to go back to this place near McNeese U. to have their fried shrimp po-boy again. Absolutely the best of its kind in Lake Charles. Closest to New Orleans style that I’ve found around SW La. anyway. Crispy bread, perfectly fried shrimp.
