Skimpy. The location in lake charles has serving sizes skimpier than those in Lafayette and Baton Rouge.

Upfront: I really like Jason’s Deli. It’s one of my favorite restaurants to go to because I know that I like 7 or 8 things there and am usually in the mood for at least one of them. In fact, I’m usually in the mood for like 5 of them and can’t decide what to get. When I found out we were getting one in Lake Charles, I made a pact with several family members that we would eat there once a week to make sure they stay open. As if we would have to make a binding pact to have a reason to eat there. To be fair, I’ve had a sandwich or two I didn’t love. But their Muffalettas are the only ones I will eat. (I was shocked to move to Louisiana and find out that apparently muffalettas aren’t that good in the very state from which they originated? At least, not as far as Lake Charles is concerned. Maybe I’m not looking in the right places.) For years I thought Jason’s Deli must actually bake their potatoes, not steam them like most other restaurants because the insides were so soft and fluffy, not chunky when you break them apart. The Lake Charles location somehow seems less consistent in this regard than the ones in Beaumont, so now I’m not as certain, but I still will eat their potatoes before any other restaurant in LC since the quality is far and away so much better.I appreciate Jason’s Deli’s policies regarding sourcing and preparing their food, and the respect they seem to show their employees. The portions of the menu items are large, and I usually split something with my husband. I’m always glad afterwards that we did, since some of the sandwiches are pricey, and some of our favorites aren’t exactly low-calorie, but I always feel begruding about splitting beforehand, because who wants to share delicious food? I won’t pretend I can’t eat that entire thing myself given half a chance…

Great Salad Bar. Jason’s Deli has a wide variety of options. Nice environment. Excellent salad bar. You also get a lot for your money. I usually make 2 meals out of my order.

Lose the chain mentality. Maybe this review is kind of unfair, given that I would have never eaten their food if these guys had not catered an event I participated in. I was too hungry since I had not eaten before, the food was edible, and I sampled too much not to formulate a strong opinion (and a bit of a PSA).Any bread-like product in the spread was wretched. The eggs were those chilled blocks of rubber that would probably look the same if left alone for 100 years. Meat was okay, if boring, as was the cheese with its passable sharpness. The veggie wrap was the worst–mostly those repulsive eggs with way too much cheese and not even remotely enough of those veggies of its namesake. Salsa and other sauces were preserved and prepackaged. I have had better danishes at hotels. So they do not serve breakfast at their restaurants, so what? How much better could it be? Why pay into the profit margins of a corporate machine made fat from the cost savings of dealing with the frozen and preserved, when you could be eating some truly fresh food, often for less? There’s no excuse. Wake up.

Really appreciate the gluten free choices and not mention the tastiest gluten free bread I have eaten. The choices here are endless. Great addition to our wonderful world of restaurants here in Lake Charles!
