They Have Re-Opened… Finally. Val’s re-opened since they flooded so badly last year during Issac. Before they got opened from that storm they flooded again. Anyway they opened back up Tuesday March 26th. In my opinion they are still the best. See my review dated 2/11/13.12 Feb, 2013Best Seafood. I have been going to Val’s for over 50 years. As far as I’m concerned they have the best fried shrimp, the best crab meat au gratin & the best shrimp po-boys of all of the places I’ve ever eaten. This covers the Gulf Coast from Galveston, TX down to Ft Myers, FL & the Atlantic Coast from Cocoa Beach, FL up to Yorktown, VA.Vals is not fancy; you want fancy go somewhere else; you want good food, go to Vals. It is a very family friendly place and has been owned & operated by the same family since it opened in 1959.Bottom line… It is a great place with great food on the bayou.By the way, my wife agrees with me on this 100%.

Oyster Plate. Four friends to Val’s Marina for dinner 7/14/12. One shrimp plate (was loaded with shrimp), one catfish plate (was loaded with catfish) and two fried oyster plates. I had 8 small oysters and the other oyster plate had 9 small oysters. I doubt each oyster was the size of a nickel. They tasted like they had been fried early on and maybe reheated. The batter was not crispy and the oysters were NOT hot. There was a large amount of french fries. I have eaten at Val’s now for about 15 years and have never seen something as pitiful as the two oyster plates. If management knew oysters were so small they should have at least doubled the amount on the plate or at best, advised the patrons they were so small and given the customer the choice to pick something else or accept the small oysters. Both plates were returned to the kitchen and replaced with catfish plate and shrimp plate. SHAME ON YOU VALS……..

Lousy food n service. The worst place I have ever eat. I order oyster poor boy plate charge $9.95 . I have to wait 1/2 hr was very dissapointed it is not on french bread it is on hot dog bunch w only seven oyster fried almost burn no lettuce w 1 tiny thin slice tomato cut in 1/2 no french fries , no taste lousy service. We suppose to go to KEVIN restaurant right on Diversion where we always eat but want to try Val one time because it was close to my camp No wonder even Sat of father day weekend only 2 small tables while other restaurant close by was pack n have to wait for table. I rather wait for table than wait for lousy food. Will never go back

Simply the best…. Love this place. Ribeye on the surf-n-turf special was awesome. Best fried shrimp around. Can’t wait for them to reopen after the holidays…

Great Food, Atmosphere. This is the kind of place you see in movies about Louisiana. I’ve been going since I was a kid and have always loved it. It is out of the way – probably – but it’s worth it. The seafood is probably my favorite anywhere.

Best fried seafood around. You cannot go wrong with any of the fried seafood dishes. We had fried alligator appetizer, and it was the most tender and flavorful I have ever had. Wife had crab platter and I had Val’s sampler platter. These were enough food for at least four people! Softshell crab and frog legs were over the top, and crawfish balls and hush puppies were the best. The fish, oysters, shrimp, etc. were all cooked to perfection. It may take a while for your food to come out, but it is worth the wait. Hot and fresh when it gets to your table.
