Fresh? not so sure.. To start, I ordered the fried green tomato appetizer. It was ok besides being smothered in Remoulade dressing and the shrimp was definately not fresh…it reminded of frozen chewy pink frozen shrimp you buy in Walmart. My husband order the Mahi dinner, which was cooked well besides the scallops, which were chewy. I know fresh seafood……this was not it! I then ordered the Remoulade salad and added Oysters. The oysters were greasy and bland….did I mention not fresh! Last critic would be I had to ask for a refill of water and after I drank that (along with my wine) left with my glass empty with no sight of refills.
Disappointed again. The fish was very overcooked and tasteless. For 24.95 I keep expecting better. I guess after 6 times & 6 different meals, the view is not worth it. Service wasn’t good yesterday either and it’s usually very good.
Great Place. Flew in for an Oct. 2014 wedding and we knew not where to go for dinner. The bride and groom suggested Rips on the Lake. The setting is perfect, right on the lake. On a weekday night the crowd was mostly local, but we were welcomed as honored guests. There was music in the background, but it allowed conversation – unlike a few other restaurants nearby that had thundering music and TV’s. We are two active retirees from the Pacific Northwest, an area known for outstanding food.We sat at the upstairs bar, with excellent drink and food suggestions by the bartender. He was so helpful with suggestions on local foods. The food was perfectly prepared, with large proportions. We stayed for desert with coffee, with the best key-lime pie we’ve ever experienced.Every aspect of our evening dinner at Rips on the Lake was perfect. We recommend it without reservation.

Great Atmosphere. We went to Rips on a Wednesday night celebrating a birthday. Our waiter was very attentive. The food was good. There was a kids menu which was a plus as we were dining with our kids. The only complaint I have is that the kids menu did not have sides included. We had to order a side of fries. Also, for my teenager that ordered a French bread Poboy, not the Poboy on a bun which comes with side of fries, we had to order a side as well. Our experience there was pleasant in all which mostly may be attributed to going on a Wednesday night when there was not a crowd.
One word…awesome! The fried green tomato appetizer was delicious and the oysters were mouth watering. The service was very good, friendly and not over attentive. We drove over the causeway from NOLA and were very impressed with beautiful Mandeville and this most excellent restaurant Rips on the Lake. Also the view of the lake completed the experience. Don’t miss this gem.
