One of my favorites!!!. Austins is one of my favorite restaurants!! In the past year an a half the food has gone from good to above average!! You can tell everything is fresh and that the food is top quality. The plates always looks good and there isn’t one thing i have tried that i haven’t liked! Yes they are known for their steaks (which are amazing) but everything else is awesome as well!! My favorites include the pasta orleans, any veal dish, blue cheese filet and the Herb Crusted Scallops are an absolute must…best scallops I’ve ever tasted!!! And i never miss an opportunity to try one of the daily specials, the chef is very creative and i love seeing and tasting what new things he has on the menu! -latest was bbq shrimp linguini with blackened redfish..to die for!! to sum it up-Great service, reasonably priced, and delicious, good quality food!!! def a must try for everyone!!!
Update on the service, they are grade A ignorant and rude19 Apr, 2013Mr. Ed is the MAN, straight up. But he must have cleaned house because service used to be great, but now its terrible. Waiters seemed lost and uncaring. Love Mr. Ed, great guy, not going back to Austins that’s for sure
Not Worth The Wait. My husband and I are frequent diners at Austins and have always had good service and fairly good food. It is one of the few restaurants in Metairie that stay open past 9:00. We went to Austins last week at 9:00. There was a huge party going on at one side of the restaurant and the other side was open to diners. We got the impression the hostess did not really want to seat us, but found us a table and gave us two menus. We waited and waited to be at least, to give someone our drink order. Two different waiters handled tables right by us, but did not acknowledge us at all. A group of two men that came in to sit after us gave their order and received food, while we were still waiting for someone to at least take our drink order. After waiting for 40 minutes for someone to notice us, we decided to go somewhere else before it got too late. Luckily Impastato’s was still open and we ended up having a fabulous meal there. The bottom line is this-if you choose to keep your restaurant open to the public while having a large private party, at least ACKNOWLEDGE your customers. When we did walk out after 40 minutes of waiting, the hostess and staff sitting at the bar told us nothing. We got the impression that they were glad to see us leave. Needless to say, after years of dining here, we will NEVER return! There are too many other good restaurants in this city that are glad to wait on people!!!
Great steak and martinis! Service is on point and the family knows how to run restaurants. Mr Eds and cheeseburger eddies were all tried and enjoyed after our great experience at Austin!
Have been to this restaurant at least 10 times. The first 9 were GREAT!!! Last meal was ok but not up to usual excellence. I’ll just call it an off night and try again. Great atmosphere for a strip mall.
Check your check. Great food, deafening noise (on a busy Saturday), and charge for an extra unordered unreceived glass of wine. Recommended but, as the title says, check your check.
Worst dining experience ever. My wife and I had called ahead to make an eight o’clock reservation. We arrived on time only to be left standing at the entrance for about five minutes before anyone acknowledged us. We were shown to the bar to a wait for a table. The bartenders were great. It is a shame the rest of this experience will overshadow their professionalism. At nine o’clock we were shoved toward the dining room with no server to seat us. We placed our order and twenty minutes later I went to complain that we still had not received our entrees. We were preparing to leave since it had been over an hour that we been waiting to eat. Our food finally arrived. We went to sit at our table only to discover our waiter was clearing our table. We sat down to eat the worst steak I have ever had. I have had better food and service at Denny’s. As we ate we were about to order an after dinner drink when our waiter flung the check at me and we were not even half way finished our food. I then went to the bar to close my bar tab and once again the bar staff was phenomenal. I assure you we are not hard to please but this was by far the worst dining experience I had ever had
