Chicken loaf. Best in town
Meh…not coming back. Ordered dressed shrimp poboy…unlike previous reviews they have barely just enough shrimp to cover the bread. Shrimp was smelly and rubbery. 1st and last time. plenty of other good poboy places on veterans to give them a second chance.
Will Not Be Back!. Passed by this place many, many times while driving down Veterans (its one block off of Veterans Blvd.) and was always curious. Finally gave them a try recently and ordered the shrimp po-boy dressed. I wished I had continued just driving by. This was one of the worst shrimp po-boys I’ve ever had. Shrimp smelled fishy (sign of not fresh) and were over fried to the point of being dry and rubbery (quantity wise, they give you plenty of shrimp). Like previous reviewers said, the only redeeming value was the good crusty french bread for which Buddy’s has nothing to do with in preparing. Will never be back!
Tried it finally. Finally stopped in at Buddy’s to try a roast beef po boy. Scale of 1–10….I’d give them a solid 6. Unfortunately that’s based mostly on the great job they did with the bread (a key component, often under appreciated). The actual roast beef was a tad bland and not very abundant, also the sandwich could have used some gravy. In Nola we usually expect a rb po boy to require multiple napkins (some are even graded based on napkins required). My lunch partner had the seafood gumbo, she liked it. Again though the highlight of the gumbo was the toasted and buttered French bread that came with it. All things considered, the people were super nice, and the food was worthy of another visit. Rumor is the fried chicken is good….going to try that next.
Been going here for years, for the first time in the 10 years I was refused service bc I came in 20min before close at 2:40!! Well I went there bc I live 2 blocks from the store. Guess I’ll take me business somewhere else from now on and stop recomending them too!!
Great Lunch spot!. My husband and I stop here regularly for an affordable lunch. Their potato salad is great and the fried chicken (takes a while to prepare) is awesome too. Check them out but go early!
