I am a lover of good gumbo so with the reviews that Chef Rons was award winning, how could I pass it up?I ordered the special of gumbo and half poboy. I was very tempted by the Stuffed Gumbo – gumbo with fried catfish on top. The seafood gumbo was excellent, just the right amount of okra flavor – could have been a touch spicer but when you ate cooking for the masses…The poboy was top notch as well, fresh shrimp and nice crisp French bread.
Chef Ron’s is a busy place and I can see why… the Gumbo is out of this world the oyster poorboy I had was perfect… I mean who can live without this kind of food not I… thankfully I just got a gig where I will be here once a month and I get to taste it all….
I try seafood gumbo everywhere I go and I’ve got to say that Chef Ron’s is one of the best! Dark roux, shrimp, crawfish, oysters, and okra make it fantastic. Not to mention Chef Ron is a nice guy, met me at the door and at my table!
First time trying this place. Very small and crowded with tables. Alligator appetizer was awesome. Crawfish ettouffe was the worst I ever ate. It was too watery and not many crawfish. Potato salad was very good with a large portion.
Chef Ron’s is the best place to get Gumbo in the city. The food is always top notch and full of down home flavor! It is our favorite place to eat. It’s one of the city’s little gems!
Chef Ron has great home style cooking. The gumbo is the bomb! You can get a great, filling meal for under $15 and have leftovers! I highly recommend going and trying it out. You won’t regret it!
