Enjoyable. Always enjoy this place…not sure if its the old building or being around the noise of people having conversation. only thing i dont care for is having to put my own powdered sugar on the beignets…it can get a bit messy…we did request a bag of powdered sugar and it makes it easier…kids enjoy getting the paper hats
Just visited the Morning Call in City Park. No, the beignets are not better than Cafe du Monde, sorry. I don’t know if they do this in the Metairie store as well, but you are served beignets plain with no powdered sugar. You are then expected to sprinkle the sugar from a clogged dispenser on the table. Try as you might, you won’t get it piled high like at CdM. Also, coffee was burned and tasted like it had been sitting out all morning. I don’t see a reason to return! Also, both Morning Call and Cafe du Monde need to get with the 21st century. Even food trucks are accepting credit cards these days.
I visited Morning Call once, in the summer of 1964; taken there by my parents. My mother used to go to New Orleans as a teenager, and never missed stopping at Morning Call. That would have been in the late 1930’s and early 1940’s. She had wanted to make sure her boys had this experience. I stillmiss the beignets. Just unforgettable.
Awesome!. I LOVE their coffee, it tastes like a hot granita (if you know what that is) and their beignets rival Cafe du Monde’s!
Best!!!!. The beignets are really better here than at Cafe du Monde. Sorry to say, but true. Conveniently placed on 17th in back of Lakeside Shopping Center, we visit there almost every time we drive from across the Lake for shopping. The coffee is strong and delicious, the beignets airy and totally fantastic. The staff is always friendly and on the spot.
Please Update…. I’ve been going to Morning Call for Years…. and every time i go it’s the same… this has to be the closest you can get to actually eating at the French Market Morning Call… but still the one same problem cash only…
My favorite place for cafe au lait & beignets. Open all the time, consistantly good, and no tourist hype. Love Morning Call.
