Overpriced for mediocre food. 15$ doz oysters …$8 at Kenner SF
Recommended in the past, numerous times, BUT have to rescind that one. Service, price & food a HUGE disappointment.
Wow! Outstanding restaurant! My wife and I would like to consider ourselves food critics. We do not have any training as critics but we do know the difference between a great restaurant, an okay restaurant and a down right restaurant who needs help. I our opinion Mr. Ed’s Oyster Bar has nailed it again just like all his other restaurants. We started with two Dos XX’s draft beers and a dozen raw oysters and a dozen Charbroiled Oysters. Both were enough to get us to come back. Next we shared a Blue Cheese Wedge Salad that was just perfect, with crumbled blue cheese and bacon on it. Our server was so great and informative that she encouraged us to split the salad because it’s size is more than enough for one to eat. Then came my soft shell crab entree which was huge with lump crabmeat dripping off all sides of this mammoth of a crab. My wife had the perfect seafood platter. Everything was fried golden to perfection. For dessert we had a New Orleans style bread pudding that made me think we were in the French quarter somewhere. Mr. Eds Oyster Bar is a wonderful Restaurant and we will definitely be back. I am glad I checked the place out for myself and not rested on the opinions of some of the negative reviews on here because, I would have been cheated out of a fantastic meal and a wonderful night in such a great place. Also anybody who knocks a place because the prices are too high should stay at home. Obviously you can’t afford to dine out, so you shouldn’t take it out on the restaurant. We eat out 3 nights a week and I think that qualifies my review as knowing what I am talking about, not some guy who eats out once a year on his wife’s birthday or relatives graduation who doesn’t really have a leg to stand on when it comes to writing a review.
Disappointed. I have never written a review online prior to this one, but was so disappointed I feel compelled to do so. My family & I have lived in New Orleans our entire lives and love seafood. First, everything is way overpriced. Most of their menu is priced high for even a comparable restaurant located in the French Quarter. The broiled oysters were decent, but not worth the price. The seafood gumbo was terrible. Turtle soup was below par. Fried oyster po-boy was bland. Shrimp & grits dish was decent, but definitely not worth the price. Service was very good. Our bill was just under $100, I would have been disappointed if I had paid $50 for our meals. Two of his other restaurants are very good, Mr Eds & Austins, but this was a huge disappointment.
This place was way over priced. Paid for ‘fresh’ redfish and it was frozen, tough and fishy. 2.00 up charge for something that is the same price on the menu. We will not be back.
Very Disappointed. Well I was very disappointed with Mr Eds Oyster Bar. Food was WAY overpriced and not that great. I ordered the seafood platter for lunch, it was $15.95 and I got 4 small shrimp 2 small pieces of catfish and 3 oysters and as my side I ordered the jambalaya which tasted like something out of a box. The batter was just cornbread and all the seafood tasted the same. My son ordered the shrimp plate off of the kids menu it was $7.95 and he got 4 small shrimp and a plate of cold fries. I def will not be going back, on the plus side staff was very friendly.
Went hoping to have great flavor in our meal. Instead we had bland almost tasteless cream sauce to accompany our crawfish in pasta. Also ordered the Crab Cake pasta. But once again the bland sauce drowned out whatever good flavors we had in the crab cake. Red beans tasted straight from a can. Drinks were too pricey. Service was not to par and prices were way to high for the quality of food. Not worth almost 20 an entree.
